^ Need for Speed Shift ^

Runs like crap here, seems to stutter like mad when going around the bends, and Grid looks better imo.

Having a quick go on this now, most people are probably being put off by the first test lap. The car handles horrible on the track, no grip at all as said. I put in these options (for xbox controller):

Steering Dead Zone-15%
Accel Dead Zone-10%
Brake Dead Zone-10%
Steering sensitivity-5%
Acell Sensitivity -5%
Brake sensitivity-5%
Speed steering Sensitivity 100%

The car feels a lot better using these, just had a go on Spa and found it much easier to handle around the corners. Give it a try?

Will give it another go and try those, seems to be like trying to steer a brick at the minute, and can you get rid of those crap racing line arrows that go green yellow red, doing my head in them *****.

hmm... runs fine for me... all settings maxed out 8aa 1440x900 on 8800gt stock speeds / amd athlon 2 x2 at 3.8 / 4gb ddr2

runs between 30-50

well that first lap you do really sets a strange impression of the game !!!!

bought the megane and had some cash to spare so buffed up the acceleration and added more grip. Tinkered with the control settings in the G25 preset then took it out for a spin, its not the fastest car but it doesnt feel to bad through corners.

its certainly different to the likes of rFactor in terms of realism and its not as arcade as GRiD, but after a few laps realising i cant take corners at 80mph and trying to drive properly it just clicked !!

graphics are awesome, the detail is great and the crash effects are fantastic .. cant wait to take some of the high performance cars out for a proper spin.

i guess after talking with others and reading posts you get more out of the game with a decent wheel setup. No doubt the game might need a few tweaks here and there but im sure community feedback and future patches will sort out some stuff ..

Got this game last night, took forever to download.

ohh.. rwd cars are nearly imposible to handle without helps.. and im not going to turn them on! :)

I noticed this quickly too. I'm trying to do it with just the keyboard so it's a massive pain. Even if I turn the assists on, all RWD card decide THEY want to go round a corner at a 120 degree angle

Yeah why are loading times stupidly long??
I'd like to know that myself. Getting a solid 60fps 1920x1200 16xAS 4xAA on a 3.2Ghz Q6600 and an overclocked 9800GX2 yet it takes an ice age to load after a defragment.

Works fine for me. Windows Server 2008 R2 190.68 with nVidia's SLI profile installed. Disabling SLI makes the game very choppy.

it is hard to handle with a wheel... press a little to much throttle and your out..

Edit

wow just did two laps at nurburgring.. and trust me the game is worth only cos' of it :D

Damn it! My copy arrives today and i'm away for the weekend straight after work so wont get a chance to have a play until Sunday/Monday :-(

Make sure you tune those cars, even if it's just using the quick tuning option, makes a big difference! My GTR handles like a dream now.

not that you have played the game to death already to get a headstart on us all ;)

you have a GTR - i have a honda s2000 with breaks made of toast and tyres made out of licorice allsorts

Beats me as well. There is little HDD activity in that time and I don't have a slow machine. Even choosing between cars takes several seconds for each one to load! Understandable if the game is loading from optical media on a console but not on a PC.

I think it is a good game but a few niggling faults spoil it from being great. I mean what were they thinking making a racing game that gives you points for driving badly ??? I bet online is going to be real fun to play with every Tom, Dick and Aunt Sally trying to spin you out all the time.
And then we have the AI cars which on some tracks seem to form an orderly queue when going round a corner and then just stop dead until they decide to sort themselves out.

It is much much better than the past 2 or 3 NFS disasters EA pushed out though.

I changed the settings as suggested for my xbox 360 controller and i can now play in easy mode rather than casual mode :D

Still a bit lame that the default setting make you drive like a drunk of the test track.

Got to agree with this, hardly see any overtaking by the AI going round corners, definitely no late breaking either.

Obviously im still on tier 1, but does the AI get better the further you get into the game?

im running a stock c2d e6700 @ 2.6 4gig ram 280 GTX and its running like a hot knife through butter.

the cars in the menu do take about 10secs to load in which is strange, but i dont feel theres massive loading times when racing, it all seems fine here..

i took the maserati for a spin around the full nurburg and bloody'ell that was scary !!! practically impossible to drive around, although again i was i suppose over eager with the throttle :p .. loving the speed and crash effects, very nice touch.

time to try it online me thinks!!

Well, it's out today, and I could easily go into town and buy it. I just don't know whether I should, some people say it's alright, others say it isn't. Basically, I love GRID and play it all the time, mainly without driver assists, and want something newer, will this suffice?

well ive put in about 2-3hrs gametime and so far i dont understand how some people are plain just slating the game. It feels more like GRiD then a simulation but the handling isnt very forgiving if you treat it like an arcade game.

the graphics are top class, very crisp and with a decent PC it looks real in places. Theres tons of cars, tuning options and races plus theres online modes of which im about to go test... i dont think anyone should bother playing racing games with a keyboard, you defo need a good wheel combo to get the best out of it. So far imo its great fun, ive had to actually put in some proper driving to win races but oeverall the game is growing on me the more i play..

Thanks for that, certainly sounds like what I want. I play using an Xbox 360 pad, and am pretty good at GRID, so something that requires a bit more driving skill would be a good next step. How do you think it would run on a 3Ghz E7200 and a 8800gts 512?
