Need For Speed Shift

I'm probably in the minority but I actually quite like this game, even though i only bought it to play before modern warfare 2 comes out to be honest.

Anyway the biggest problem I'm having is that the handling of a car seems to change between offline and online races, and I haven't got a clue why. I've got each of my cars tuned to how i like them, yet when i go online it all goes out the window. a lot harder just to keep the car in a straight line, yet alone going round a corner in some cases.

Anyone able to shed some light on this, or is it just another bug ?

i got the demo for this after the need for a new racer and i left feeling very glad i didnt get it (picked up ferrari challenge instead) i may get it when its in the bargin bin but i wasnt a fan of either the controll or the whole blurr effect thing. also the AI was very agressive and making the AI agressive doesnt = good AI its just a difference from the GT norm the problem is the reason they have the whole follow the racing line AI normally as if you watch motor racing then generally do follow the racing line.

Ended up trading my copy in...after a few days of playing with it...i found that i absolutely loathed it...the handling was a joke.

I'll wait for FM3...good thing i didnt lose too much...got £25 for the trade in.

I tried the demo for this last night, and god the handling was annoying. Slightly adjusting the steering on a straight sent the car into a snake, and powering out of corners kicked the arse out. Also, the turning was awful and if you crash it sits there bouncing off of the limiter in Neutral for an age. Bloody annoying.

they seem to of tried to make it sim like, when it is really a arcade racer.

Was hoping this would make a nice stop-gap to fill a few weeks before Forza 3 comes out. I was wrong. This is dross.

It's an arcade game trying to be a sim game and ends up being too arcadey to be a sim and to simmy to be arcade. My copy of this gash is already on the bay.

Back to trying to get those last few online Dirt achievements for me :)

Not impressed with the demo version really, car seemed rather undriveable and very difficult to get around a corner (successfully!).

Won't be buying this one (although taken into account people adjusting the steering tolerances, i still can't justify it.)

I'll stick with Grid for the time being.

Still enjoying it at the moment, however, they can keep the drift events thank you very much. I hate them in all games that I've played with them in, only good thing is that you needn't do them for career advancement.

i think the problem with the game is that as it comes out of the box the handling is awful!

After playing with the settings it handles like a dream.

Think I’ll agree about ‘drift’ events. Totally useless at them, but I’m not a fan of drifting anyhow. As said, you don’t need them to advance, and I’ve now conquered the NFS World Tour.

After playing around with the steering settings etc, you can get a rather decent racer, but as said. Its trying to be a sim and fails, and then falls into Arcade but fails as it needs tweaking to make the cars control correctly.

Ultimately the game is flawed. And it does have some rather stupid bugs /errors. Spelling mistakes in the loading screens where it gives you hints are just stupid, grid personnel walking through the car, inconsistent gravel traps – some you can drive right over, some do as they are meant to and you skid off into the barrier.

The music is dire, and worse still, the menu music plays over the top of another track and still plays in the PS3 version when it should stop, such as I had it playing half way into a race, then stop…..

And the opponent IA is questionable, its such a shame. It could have been so much more. Dirt 2 is much better, but its not all lost the game does have some qualities making it worthwhile playing.

Apart from the fake tramlining being way OTT, it's not too bad.. If they could reduce that to something in line with other games, I'd be very very happy indeed with the Handling.

I've just done the first few races, bought the 135i, set it on Pro handling model (presumably the most sim like physics)..

Not sure whether to flog it for the price I paid now, or keep it until FM3 and get some use out of it..

I have very few problems with this now, but the one issue I do have is how many times it crashes/fails to load.

Its very intermittent where some days I dont have any problems but others it'll take me 3 or 4 attempts to even load the game let alone load a race :(

What console do you have as I've never had 1 issue with it loading on my PS3. Sounds like you have a problem with your console or the DVD.

its a 360, doesnt have a problem with any other game so must be the dvd, no scratches on it though, maybe just a bad write?

Do you mean the game itself or selecting a mode, ie Career.
I sometimes find I need to select a game mode more than once, yet when I attempt to select the mode, the game does make the sound it does when you select. No save corruption though *touches wood*

The game is slightly easier to chew since changing the Handling mode to 'default'. Oddly enough, the handling setting IS NOT just a base point for assists etc. The handling setting actually changes options within the physics engine, namely this option...

1. (Novice/Norm/XP/Pro)
2.
3. <prop name="grip level" data="1.45;1.3;1.3;1.2" />

So, the 'grip level' is 1.3 on Normal, and 1.2 on Pro, which seems to make a massive difference, assists off.

That's probably because the game is saving, when you try and enter a mode it makes the noise but does nothing, you will probably have the saving icon in the middle of the screen. As soon as that goes it will let you enter a game mode.

Well i tried the demo after all my mates were saying its best racing game etc and i thought it was a big pile of steaming turd, It gives the impression it has no idea what it wants to be thats just to name one gripe with it. Roll on Forza3 is all i say!

Still stand by then their hasnt been a decent NFS since Underground2/Most Wanted imo
