Need For Speed Shift

Is that what racing games from EA have come to now?

They create a control system that is so customisable by the end user that when it breaks or isn't right, it's down to them not fine tuning it enough and no blame can be levelled at EA?

Just for the sheer number of options to tweak and tune regards steering I will steer (no pun intended) clear of this game and wait for FM3 and GT5.

I picked this came up with my PS3 Slim at the weekend and I am rather peed off with not being able to customise the controller. I don't want to use the stick as the steering but the buttons and instead of the R1/2 etc as Throttle but rather the x button etc.

Why does it give you 3-set configs which are all rubbish?

Am I missing something or is it a case of buying a steering wheel or put up with the crap configs provided?

For those with the PS3 version of the game, patch 1.01 fixes the damage model, your car will now loose body parts and get all deformed if you crash and have full damage turned on..

I also felt the handling was a tad improved, but that could be me... Anyhow, just like 360 owners if you crash you'll see a decent wrecked car at the end of the race...

How many tiers are there?

I'm being anal about the game at the moment, no moving forward until I have full stars from the previous race. I have unlocked tier 3, but only just started on the car battle in tier 2.

Seems to be TONS of races!

It's great, I would say you can't compare this to grid, as shift is more of a sim. But it is good once you adjust to it :D

i feel like i've been overly harsh about this game.

Going from the xbox controller to the PC demo version with my G25 was incredibly different... awesomely fun infact! So much so the wheel broke shortly afterwards lol. Thankfully its still under warranty.

I haven't had this much fun with a game for a while. I played around with the steering sensitivity last night, set it much lower. Although the on screen wheel doesn't line up with mine anymore (I use the bumper cam anyway) its given much more control and its even better to drive now. Looking forward to getting home everyday to get on it!

I need to find some decent settings for the steering as I find that its either all or nothing and I just tend to understeer all the time.

Is there a good guide to set it to as I dont normally like faffing about with this kind of thing as I usually just make it worse.

i just went back to need for speed having had an hour on the forza demo....BIG mistake!

just made me realised how horrid the feel of the cars are in need for speed! at least in forza you can race at the cars limit and retain some semblance of control over your car!

looking forward to getting rid of this, and trading it in for forza!

Hi, check out the first post in the thread below - big improvement over default setup!

I just got a wheel for this (think its a G25?) any recommendations on how to change control settings - just been doing simple course few laps to try and get used to it - very difficult at first but a little better now. Much better than with a normal pad!

Just picked this up today for my 360...traded a few old games in and only paid £5 on top so not too bad.

Anyhow first impressions...it seems pretty decent actually...not playing with a wheel or anything but so far ive played about 30mins of it and i have to say its not that bad a game...the steering is a bit off but soon got used to it...seems like a decent game...much different to the FM3 demo i played the other night...this one seems more arcadey rather than sim.

All in all not bad...will pop back later to give my full impressions of it but so far its pretty decent for a non typical NFS game.
