need for speed "the run"

Shame you didn't like Most Wanted then, I was underwhelmed at first also, but after giving it a chance I ended up loving it and completed it multiple times. Carbon also, much maligned, not as good as Most Wanted but still very good in its own right.

ahh sorry, i forgot about most wanted! i enjoyed that also!

It's hardly surprising that it's tanking as the NFS games are being developed by the Burnout team on the Burnout engine - an engine designed for crashing cars, not racing them.

For me, it peaked at Carbon - that was as good as it got. I don't get the love for Most Wanted, it had probably the worst rubber-banding AI i've ever seen in a racing game.

its locked at 30fps too ive read :s

Jesus Christ will they never learn, pulled the same stunt with a patch for Pro Street, thankfully at least with that you had the option to reinstall the game and not patch it. Definitely won't be buying this unless a fix is found, and I'm a pretty big NFS fan (bought every one since the original Hot Pursuit game - don't get me started on releasing a game with the same name as a previous game in the series)

The rubber banding is a negative I agree, but I think the basic game was so good that it succeeded in being very enjoyable in spite of that. Some of the police chases were epic and the voice acting was top notch I think. And it had Josie Moran - what more do you want :p

The rubber-banding just stands out so badly though. It doesn't matter if you have a stock car or a fully tuned one, the bosses will still be right behind you at all times.

It ruins the point of upgrading for speed, really, and was the only NFS game to do it.

disapointed to hear how awful this game is, was hoping for a more decent NFS experience, but at least I know to avoid it

Same here really, got the first Hot Pursuit on the PS3 and got more and more into it the more I played :).

Massive disappointment, but at least that is one less game I need to put on my already extensive 'games I need to own' list :o

Although perhaps it helped make some of the races more epic.

I loved the career mode, found it exciting and challenging and I'm not sure I would be quick to change anything, it might make it easier and thus less challenging and satisfying to win.

It makes it less about racing and more about not mucking up on the last two corners of any given race.

Plus the lack of it certainly doesn't ruin either of the Underground games or games like Forza, GT5, etc.

LOL are you kidding me! Underground has some SERIOUS rubberband AI going on, probably the worst of any NFS game. It might be more noticeable in MW due to the police chases etc but NFS:U was an absolute joke, you could be blasting away with full nitro in a superior car making no mistakes yet somehow they close the gap, waiting for you to stack it on the last bend.

Yeah catchup I think is the proper term but they seem to get used interchangeably. Either way it is really annoying when developers don't give you the option to disable it.

Really? I won the last race in that game at an absolute canter, must have been 20s+ ahead.

I don't think i've ever won a race in MW by more than a second, even with a massively superior and tuned car.

[Edit] Just read this about Underground:

unbalanced rubberband AI

It's odd, i'm not saying you're wrong, I just never noticed it really at all, whereas in MW it was a defining factor of the boss races.

[Edit 2] Damn it Hangtime, now you've got me rummaging around in boxes looking for my copy of NFSU so I can check. :p

I'm not the only one that noticed it, here's some people having a good moan :) http://hardforum.com/archive/index.php/t-712259.html

I actually quite liked the game but basically in long races there was absolutely NO point using your nitrous in the early laps, complete waste because they'd close the gap anyway, just save it until the end to help you recover from an accident.

From what I recall the catchup works both ways, you could have a serious of terrible accidents that should set you back a good 5s minimum per accident yet the cars ahead wouldn't pull away as much as they should. I know this is 'n00b friendly' but they should let you turn it off. If you do test the game maybe try literally just sitting on the start line for 15s and see how quickly you catch them up.

Carbon was a pleasant contrast (albeit not one of the better games), I don't remember much catchup BS in that. Anyway, going a bit OT here :)

I've enjoyed most of the Need for Speed series, from the original in the Windows 95 days :p, even Need for Speed Underground was good, also enjoyed the recent Hot Pursuit, not sure about "The Run" ... locked to 30 fps is bit of nonsense
