Need for Speed Time Trial Championship ** Season 2 ** (Multiplatform)

I wouldn't worry too much about being competitive, that will come with time. Half the fun is just trying to beat your own time. Tuning the cars is sometimes good for a second or two, but there's always help on hand if you need it. You need to bear in mind that each week we select one car and one track - this week we are using the VW Scirocco, at the track Glendale West, so your Focus is no good - don't worry, Wedge's profile will allow you to buy any car.

The tracks are all different, some long, some short - this weeks is quite a short one, but some are 2-3 miiles and a good lap time could be much higher than 1min.

The deadzones etc depend what controller you are using - for example most people on here use the Xbox 360 pad, but I use different settings for my G25 wheel. I would imagine Wedge has all assists turned off in his profile (barring maybe ABS) but it's easy enough to change - I think you go to Options > Driving to set up controls and assists.

My advice would be, just buy the car we are using, (you will need to 'Works Convert' it, this just means buying all available upgrades then choosing the 'works convert' option) select the Glendale West track and just get driving. The points Moto GP points system we are using means that at the minute you are guaranteed at least one point, as we currently have 14 drivers and the top 15 get points.

Thanks mate. I understand now, so I'll get the profile, buy the scirocco and upgrade the beejezus out of it. I just tried glendale west with the focus with the wheel on my lap (usually clamped to the desk of course) and got a measly 1.20 lap time or something around that. :p What a fantastic rush this game is. I play with no cockpit view or even bonnet, just the low down road view, much better for me.

ahhh... I'd not thought about the driver aids :)

Damn you Nem, dropped me another spot down the table and FORCED me to fire NFSS back up again today while I'm meant to be doing some work!

Happy to help :)

I'm going to have another bash tonight, now I've got a setup I like I might be able to shave a tiny bit more off when it's not 3am and I've been playing it for 4 hours, lol! Fresh eyes might just do the trick...

Ok, I've been using wedge's profile (thanks wedge, cor, you got millions of dollars :p). I think I've got my setup reasonably comfortable and have bought a lot of upgrades for the scirocco. I tried setting to complete understeer in the quick tune/balance but didn't like it so have set it in the middle. So I've only been playing this game since yesterday and on glendale west I beat my time of 1:25 with 1:17 just a moment ago. How am I doing? I'm not thrashing around yet, just getting to know the track better and better and going at a pace I can handle the car.

Sounds like you've made a pretty good start indeed. Just make sure that you end up using the "Works Converted" upgrade option once you've got the hang of it. We're all using the works converted setup for this week's challenge so you won't get close to the times if you're not on the same setup. You have to add in every upgrade possible and then select the works option from the bottom right of the upgrades screen. I'm only mentioning this as I wasn't aware when I started last week :)

Thanks Nem. Ok, I've installed everything and works converted. It says no more upgrades available for my car. The only things left are advanced tuning including tires and brakes, steering lock, alignment, springs and dampers, differential, gearing and aerodynamics. I have absolutely NO idea how to set those. With everything else installed, can I leave those as they are and start to get close to the times you guys are setting? :) I realise I'm trying to run before I can walk but still, I'm a fast(ish) learner. :D

I would say try it as it is standard to get a feel for it and then go from there. The setup pics a bit further up in the thread seem to be working well for me.

Also I gained another second or two by turning off the traction control and stability control. But you'll need to get familiar with the game / track and car first, unless you've been brave and turned them off already :)

I spent 4 hours solid last night just going round and round and round and got from 54.4 down to 52.5, so the last little bit is certainly the hardset to get sorted. Try and aim for a sub 1 minute time as a goal and see how you get on :)

Yep, I'm definitely trying for sub 1 minute.
Actually, I'll be happy if I just get to 1 minute or just over for now.

I've got everything off, no assists at all, car handling is 'experienced', this is as per wedge's profile. I'm doing ok but there's a NASTY NASTY corner on this track that I keep coming too fast into and ending up on the gravel, lol. :D

Merlin, the best advise is to brake early to start with, there is nothing worse than mucking up your corner/lap by braking to late.

You will find you take the corner faster this way, because you can get back on the gas mid/late corner exit. As the addage goes, slow in, fast out ;)

Then its just a case of finding the latest braking point before that particular corner, as you get better.

Cheers for the advice wedge (and your profile). ;) My difficulty at the moment is actually knowing where to brake and where to just trust the car to turn a sharp corner without much braking or any braking. I've been watching nikaz' video a few times of glendale west and learnt some better ways of driving. For instance, I didn't know you could take one of those corners in 6th right up to the apex, whereas before I was slowing right down to 3rd gear. His video also showed me that he never goes any lower than 4th gear. Anyway, I started off at 1:25 today and I'm now down to 1:07. I'll be happy when I shave off another 8 seconds. Getting there I guess!

That was just amazing to watch, excellent control.

Welcome Merlin5 & thanks.

I just started playing this game, how do I select time trial and that track, and do I need to have all assists off and a pro handling car? I've tried that tonight, bloody hard, car's all over the shop.

I played around with the various 'Handling Model's' available during season 1.
Go here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=15304975&postcount=1126 for a brief run down on the differences.
Starting out I'd recommend the 'Normal' handling. It offers slightly more grip as opposed to 'Experienced'.
Once you get more familiar with the game I recommend moving to 'Experienced' for a better feel as I put it.
'Pro' is for Wheel & Pedal users as it offers the most realistic handling which can be very unforgiving when using a pad.

Are you using a xbox360 pad BTW?

I'm using my thrustmaster force feedback wheel with pedals and it has gear up and down paddles. Got the gear stick on the right as handbrake but not used that yet. I'm getting so used to handling 'Experienced' model I wouldn't want to go back to anything easier tbh. Is there an easy way for me to record myself racing glendale and sticking it on youtube so you can give me pointers to improve?

I use fraps to record video. Then use Windows Live Movie Maker to convert & upload to youtube. It's a good tool, does everything for you.
Record vid with fraps
Open vid in Windows Live Movie Maker
Select Auto Movie (no music please)
Select Publish Movie (within movie maker) to youtube
