Need Help, Mis-sold Laptop

go to a local pc shop that sell Acer notebooks - they will probably have an charger knocking about - jsut explain what gone on and they may loan it to you for a small fee.

Sorry to hear of this problem, if the unit is definately sold as new and it is indeed second hand, then this is clearly wrong and basically agains trading standards.

HOWEVER it is possibly that it is indeed new, and there is a confusion over the serial number.

To find out more, I would need to know about what retailer it comes from. Is it one that begins with C, or LD ??

I *could* help you with this one, POSSIBLY

*EDIT* oh its only an AC - Adpater

LD is the one mate....

Yeah its only the charger which is fair enough but finding out from Acer that i technically dont have a warranty as its not registered with me and has been repaired 2 times before it was returned makes me think I should push this a bit further.

Yeah I Would most definately get more involved with LD, and check that it was deffo NOT sold as a refurb, i would also check in the fineprint that they cant sell refurbs as i think some sites try that kind of thing;

I.E.

Also double check that the serial number is correct, get the person on the phone from acer to go over it a couple of times. In addition to that ask nicely for the person at acer to raise an "information case [and get a caseID]" make sure the case has all the information stating what has happened.

We sell Antec universal chargers that should definitely fit Acer's. If you don't get anywhere then have a look for the NP100-EC on our website and it should get you up and running.

Other alternative is to look on the bay for a genuine charger if this is something you want.

That's BS. They'd have to mark in the description that it was refurbished. And even then, if it was refurbished, the manufacturer would most likely have given it a new serial number to avoid an issue like this one popping up.

It's probably just been sent back by the original buyer and put back in with the new stock rather than sent away through the proper channels, for one reason or another. I used to work for a rather large electronics retailer and we were told to do this sorta thing all the time.

I'd be careful what you do re. taking the hard drive out and backing it up. Make sure you get some sort of written/recorded confirmation that you can do that, otherwise this retailer could turn round and say 'you've voided the warranty by taking it apart, not our problem'.

If you returned the lappy would you get a new one in return and have warranty like you do not have at the minute.

Just swap the HDD for a cheapo small 30Giger keep your 180G and send it back. If you get caught tell them it must have been the previous owner that they never told you about.

@*Moangroan*

That did cross my mind but not sure I can deal with the hassle.

Thanks for all the advice guys, will be chasing this up I have already spoken to Trading Standards and the process is under way, I will be pushing for a refund and getting the hard drive backed up...
