I know how you're feeling, I'm 24, stuck in a dead end job as a security guard, when I've got a degree in marketing, however as I only got a 3rd and didn't do all that well on my GCSE's no major companies will even look at me.
It's difficult to convince people you're worth the risk when you have almost no experience. Put it this way, employers look more favourable on people who have jobs (even **** ones) as it shows A) they're employable and B) they're willing to do anything rather than be on the dole.
I would never recommend going in the army, my girlfriend considered it and I talked her out of it because I didnt want her to get killed (I know it's a stupid excuss, but I'm getting really tired of seeing people go in the army, get sent off to somewhere-istan and get shot before they're 25)
