Need new direction in life, what to do ?

I know how you're feeling, I'm 24, stuck in a dead end job as a security guard, when I've got a degree in marketing, however as I only got a 3rd and didn't do all that well on my GCSE's no major companies will even look at me.

It's difficult to convince people you're worth the risk when you have almost no experience. Put it this way, employers look more favourable on people who have jobs (even **** ones) as it shows A) they're employable and B) they're willing to do anything rather than be on the dole.

I would never recommend going in the army, my girlfriend considered it and I talked her out of it because I didnt want her to get killed (I know it's a stupid excuss, but I'm getting really tired of seeing people go in the army, get sent off to somewhere-istan and get shot before they're 25)

Bit of a depressing thread but im fed up with life its a tad mundane im 21 in november and id like to have something to show for myself.

Got 9 Gcse's plus 3 A levels in Music tech. im signed to various labels but they hardly bring in money which is the sad reality that if your not david guetta your no one financially in this industry.

I work at next in factory level work, while the wage is good ( £9hr avg) its hard graft and not mentally rewarding.

Ive thought about getting into IT ( love building my PC up and adding parts) thought about computeach course paying DD each month still working at next and studying in free time, they say there are jobs at the end.

Thought about doing my part dream of becoming a personal trainer and doing a course in that, i trained for the olympics a while back ( not for any olympics anytime soon) but ive had food poisoning really bad lost lots of muscle and mass now its a thing of the past.

Thought about joining the Raf, feel id get taught a few life basics, but id miss my girl, id miss my family.

I have harrdly any outgoings, i have a lot of disposable income every month, im bored, theres nothing to do. i feel all i do is work then come home, i wake up to breathe then go to sleep, rinse and repeat. What hobbies can i take up.

probably be ripped to shreds in GD but im serious and really would like some input, your all from various walks of life and have your different opinions, what is Tech suppor tlike ? is it a good wage ?

You don't realise how lucky you are mate!

It took me till I was 28 to start chasing what I wanted to do in life. :)

You have written here lots of options and roads you can go down, I think the best bet would be see the responses here and look into them further, but also you need to listen to yourself and what you want out of life.

lol it doesn't really change much... save up 4 or 5 grand and go back packing to the far east and Australia for a year or 2.

Something to focus on the short term goal and a life changing experience that may help you appreciate whats good in life.

This. Saving money and not having a lot of out goings, just save up a lot of cash and spend the summer in USA for 3months or something as above.

Really, Life doesn't change much and thats how things work. The majority wake up Mon-Fri, Earn money, spend a few hours with friends and family at night, go bed and thats it for the whole week. On weekends, some of the world simply spend their cash flow doing things they enjoy. Thats how the world works and it's the way of life for the majority. Born>Learn>Job>Car>Wife>Mortage>Family>Die

Depressing in theory, but there is a lot of things to enjoy that you like! For example I will do as the poster above me has said, Save up money and visit somewhere for a long period of time, then come home, rinse and repeat. Makes finding jobs hard work whilst in the UK though, as I'm not long turn or committed to a career with them for 15-20 years.

I'm only 20 myself, But I don't want a career in my life, To be tied down by such etc. Just get enough cash to go on my next adventure, Only been on 2 adventures so far, I prefer to try and find like minded people, get to know them and venture with them etc.

Christ almighty, there are plenty of people who don't find what they're looking for in life until half their life has gone!
gary, you have a techical ability that most don't have......could you not pursue what you do on the continent? ie. Sweden where they love that kind of....stuff (sorry, its just not to my taste, but i respect your talent).

Don't join the forces if it was purely just 'another option'. And your excuse for not joining shows you don't really want it anyway.

I wish you all the best mate, but without trying to sound condescending, you're not even 21 yet, your still a puppy with most of your life ahead of you. The vast majority of people your age DO NOT have their careers mapped out for them by this time.
Get back into training, maybe do some pc course and see if you can tie it in with your music, ie selling DJ-type systems (pc and synth stuff with software) and maybe training people on said systems as well.
You tried giving demo's in school and offering tutoring? Could lead to recognition....and job offers? Schools kids would love what you do.
You actually seem like you have more going for you than the average 20 year old.....just stop giving yourself excuses.

Good luck mate, i'm sure you'll find something that will fulfill your life's desire....but you're not over the hill yet buddy. :)

thanks for the input guys, i guess i just panicked a bit because 20 years had flown by, saving up and going away seems a really good idea gives me a target to lock onto and makes working a mundane job not so mundane. good idea on the synth stuf, ive thought about becoming my own label/supplier, setting up a website and selling/promoting/distributing other peoples products and taking a share, no iodea how to set one up thoug, would need server space, security, e cart etc.

21 is super young.

My advice would be to start doing what you enjoy, I can see no reason why you couldnt become a personal trainer, you can get yourself back up to speed in time with the fitness side and be learning the paper side of things in the mean time.

I get like this a lot myself, very unhappy at work and still dont know what direct to take at 26 but you have to remember that life is more than just work, as long as you can pay the bills and have some money aside for pleasure then now and again then its not all so bad!

I know a personal trainer at my gym who hasn't been doing it very long, he is about 25 and he is far from the biggest of lads....go for it!

Enjoy your youth and freedom that it brings you, go and see bits of the world - take your gf with you and fun!

Then in a few years start asking yourself what you want to do, remember your only young once.
