Hi all,

I came across some images of Nehalem / X58 Chipset (Tylersburg) motherboards. I've read that the development of Nehalem / X58 is at a 'Mature' state now and looks like it's definitely going to be released Q4 2008. I thought you all might enjoy a quick look.

Sweet, I know what my next PC is going to have in it :D

Apparently the difference between Core 2 Duo and Nehalem is the same as it was between Pentium 4 and Core 2 Duo, so we should see a nice big improvement.

Hopefully they keep the prices decent.

Yes Craig, I've heard that too. Apparently the Nehalem 2.6ghz they tested was quicker than the QX9770. Only the extreme versions are being released initially though. I've put my build off completely until Nehalem is out.

Hmm, Extreme versions usually mean the CPUs that are £600+ :(

thats pity will have to be big upgrade ddr3 ram new mob new cpu ,new cpu fans/ waterblocks :(

Yup! I haven't got a system at the moment so mine will all be from scratch. Well I have an empty Silverstone TJ07B-W and Bay-HDD Convertor and that's it. Apparently though, Nehalem supports DDR 2 too.

That would be perfect if that's the case!

Yeah, well PCSTATS say so:

Nehalem's architecture requires about twice as many connects, thus it's being introduced with a new 1366-pin LGA socket that is slightly rectangular in shape. Obviously, this means entirely new motherboards and heatsinks. On the plus side, Nehalem can operate with DDR2 or DDR3 memory, depending on the path mobo manufacturers take.

i would assume most of those MB would have 6 ram slots as you cant see the bottom part of the boards, but the intel has what looks like 3 for tripple channel and an extra one??

Does triple channel mean you'll need 3 memory sticks?

So we're going to start seeing RAM sold in packs of 3?

I was also thinking we'd be forced onto DDR3 with Nehalem. It's good to know that's not the case.

There are three bloomfield based Nehalems on Intels 2008 roadmap.

The extreme 3.2Ghz processor, the performance 2.93ghz, and the mainstream 2.66Ghz processors. All 3 are quad cores, and I assume all will work with tripple channel memory.

The 2.66 seems to be targetted to be in the $316 pricepoint currently held by the Q9450, (or the Q9550 after the Q3 price drop).

Of course supply and demand will be an issued, but as many go for the lower models and overclock, supply on the 2.93Ghz may be ok, and it should the same (or a little cheaper) than the Core 2 E6700 when it was first released so around £300 or so. If its anywhere around the £300 mark, I'll likely have one on pre order :)
