Nehalem / X58...

3 months + of wait, think ill just get my new rigg now and enjoy and then in 6-12 months time upgrade again, am getting use to having a pc for 6 months or less now anyhow lol

Proberly be better to wait till Summer 09 anyhow ;)

Crysis is outdated.

I am still wondering if 4870 1gb x4 in crossfire, new nehalem ,12gb ram and x58 mobo will be enough to run Age of Conan in 1680x1050 and 0 AA/AF in battle-keep siege with more than 25fps ....

So what happens when we have quad channel ram after triple?

would be nice if it could be switchable from dual - quad since by then we will have larger single memory sticks

2 x 4gb / 2 x 8gb? or 4 x 2gb etc.. :p

why cant they keep the same mounting holes and distances as used in socket 775 i cant see how that couldn't be done without issue well lets hope a new tuniq tower or thermalright comes along swiftly too then

Really?

So when did a better looking game come out then?

Not yet, but some games look pretty close to it imo.. and at least they run a ton better than the poorly coded one.

Maybe he means outdated because by the time people can afford to buy something like 2 x GTX 280's the game will be a year old :p

im hoping thermalright will come out with a standalone mounting kit for these new sockets so i can keep on using my TRUE

if nothing better is out by then anyway

I think we all came to the conclusion long ago that if it takes a 2k PC and even throwing 2-3 Gpus into the mix and still not being able to play a game nicely/smoothly on max res its obviously the games engine thats faulty ;)

Perhaps because the chip and socket are phyiscally larger, and because the spacing of the holes limits the size of the "standard" intel orb style cooler.

I dunno why people reckon that cooler is noisy, its bleeding huge. Any fan that size wont need to spin anywhere near the speed of an 80mm fan to push equivalent air.

I hope by the time Nehalem arrives that DDR 3 timings are tightened up massively. Theres bugger all point running your RAM at 2GHz/CL9, as I see the cheaper DDR3 kits currently run at. For gaming, latency is still much more important than bandwidth (says the guy still using BH-6).

I'm guessing probably the latter of Q4. Hope sooner though.

Agreed, however they almost always mean the last few weeks anyway. I think am right in saying wolfdale launched Q4 in 2007 but we didnt really see them in peoples rigs till febuary time. Bit of a gap between launch and when you can actually get a hold of one, atleast if last time round was anything to go by.

If the mainstream one is £299 I will get it, anything much more and I will hold out. :)

Yeap hopefully by early 2009 nehalem and DDR3 will be popping up everything in alls riggs :)

I will then patiently wait for newer games and wait for octocore to become affordable ;)

From what I can tell about Nehalem from the rumours and that, its ahead of schedule. The problem with the current 45nm chips is it was 18 months between 65nm and 45nm, but it took 24 months to convert a Fab. Fabs that started shifting to 45nm before 65nm was even ramped up are only just starting 45nm now.
Since Nehalem is good old 45nm, it will be ready in big numbers no problem. Sandy bridge on the other hand...
