Neighbour from a few doors up parks their car outside my house

Unless the space in front of your house is reserved, you have no more legal right to park their that anyone else.
Sorry, but the issue is with your own mindset here.

Have I said otherwise? Quite clearly in my 1st post I said there's little I can do. My neighbour parking his car there has had some effects. People visiting me can no longer park where I live, and for the last 2 months his car, which is a dirty old heap, has become a bit of an eyesore. He has space outside his home. Why not park it there? I know it's not enshrined in law to park your car where you live but it is something that usually happens.

He doesn’t use it very often, you’ve said that. Perhaps when he last went out in it, when he got home, someone was parked outside his house so he just picked another space.

Life is too short to get annoyed by where someone parks legally.

grin and bear it and don't let it bother you. life is too short and there is nowt you can do so don't stress it.
half of our drive does not have a dropped kerb. most people don't park and block us in but sometimes some do. it's annoying and I kind of ask myself what sort of berk does that when it blocks a car in, I know I wouldn't esp as it's not like there is a fairly cheap car park literally around the corner.. but people just have to save £2 for a days parking. nothing I can do.

Why can't visitors to you park outside his house if there's space there?

You can ask him to move it but he'll probably get all bent outta shape and you'll end up having niggles over parking for years after that

How much did you save by not having a dropped curb put in? ;)

Parking is so often a contentious issue. While the setup with our new place is a little unconventional it does mean that we'll never have to deal with blocked driveways or random eyesore vans and busses abandoned outside ever again.

just tell him you have a large appliances to be delivered in next few days and if he can move his vehicle.

then park your car there, he wont know, job done.

A brief look tells me that if they're parking in front of your drive and you don't have a dropped kerb... the one doing something illegal is you :p

At our previous house there was a Taxi driver who lived across the road. He took every opportunity to park outside our house. I followed him down the road one day and he parked right outside our house. Our drive only had enough room for one car so the Mrs used to park outside our house.
His Mrs wasn't in so his "drive" was clear. I say "Drive" as he had gateposts but no dropped kerb. So I parked blocking his "Driveway". He got out of his car saying I couldn't park there, To which he got told no dropped kerb no Driveway.

That was the last time he parked infront of our house.

The fact that you’ve created the post shows that your mindset is that he’s in the wrong, regardless of the legal side of things.

What about all the other days when he wants to park normally in his drive?

Nothing you can do OP but it is weird he doesn't want to park outside his own house and if you don't use it he probably thinks he's doing nothing wrong because he isn't..

how so? whilst a non dropped kerb means I do not automatically have a right of access I can't see how I am breaking the law. if I am then there are a lot of our neighbours doing it and the traffic warden ignores it (mind you they also ignore cars parked right on the junction :( )

edit I stand corrected you are right.

our next door neighbour tried. and they were told too many other neighbours had had it done so it was rejected.
