Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days

I don't think you get it, most people are fine with the fact they have had to reduce the quality by circa 25%. But why should they still charge 100% of the fee for 75% of the service.

Sky has offered to pause their sports subscriptions due to the lack of content on offered. Netflix will still continue to offer their services as normal, with a drop in data consumption that most of you won't even notice - but of course everyone upset is an audio/videophile with the latest technology and 20/20 vision. Contact Netflix customer service and tell them how you feel, or unsubscribe until they resume their services prior to the change.

Of course not, and you'll still continue to receive said good selection of media to watch without any issues. If you're bothered by Netflix's decision to reduce data consumption in order to continue providing a smooth service then you're free to unsubscribe.
I'm not bothered by it. Perhaps you misread my post or quoted the wrong person.

I'm watching the grainiest Lord of the Rings I've ever watched. Trust me, a 25% reduction in price is the minimum they should be offering. It looks very grainy. This is why piracy is a thing. I can download in full HD for free or pay to legally watch it in grainy quality.... hmm decisions decisions.
Honestly I'd sooner blame the transfer than this recent bitrate reduction. i just had a quick look at two towers and it was averaging 28-29mb/s which is more than enough for a 1080p using an advanced codec.

U wot m8?

Suggest you read the quote from Netflix in the OP where Netflix state it's a 25% quality cut.
Oh my god DIS, what is wrong with you?

they are reducing quality in order to reduce the bandwidth by 25%. that does not mean they need to drop the quality by 25%. That's not how compression works.

LotR had DNR added to the picture, not to mention the movie is almost 20 years old. Some people will make a mountain out of a molehill and blame Netflix, despite Netflix being requested by the European Union to make this change, not Netflix themselves. Youtube has also announced they'll be doing the same which wouldn't surprise me if people that pay for premium YT start foaming at the mouth.

Don't see the big deal. It's just 30 days and just a bunch of pixels. You're going to be sat several feet minimum away from the screen anyway unless you have a tiny living room and a corner sofa with a 65" screen.

I dont think YT premium people will care as much you still can access their content without paying and YT isn't known for UHD quality for streaming.

I'm going to agree to disagree here, a small-ish drop in quality to ease the burden on the networks for a temporary time isn't a problem.

The right thing would be for Netflix to donate the money from the higher paid subs to charity or to help fight the virus. That would be the decent thing no matter what is happening. Netflix are basically robbing money for their own back pocket. The intentions are just a front for the fact they are doing what they are doing.

Exactly

But do you not think they should charge 25% less??
Just think how many new subscriptions they'll be getting as a result of this virus.

The original article stated it was for the next 30 days. If it keeps as that then no, I don't see the problem personally. If they extend it to an extended period then yes I think they should come back with some sort of reduction or something.

I don't think you can just say they should charge 25% less either, as you're not necessarily getting 25% less.

Yet they charge more for more pixels!

Yes, I just said it wasn't a direct 25% correlation, you get extra benefits from the higher price too and I'm really not going to get hot under the collar for this measure taken in current circumstances for the amount we're talking about, I've got far more important things to worry about.

Been watching Netflix all night and not really noticed a difference big enough to worry about. They really could just offer a free month next month or something.

But to be honest I really don't care. I'm more worried about childcare, finances and health.
