Netgear D7000 VDSL modem/router

That's good. I think the date will change as there will be 2 other UK suppliers as of Friday. One place already has stock but I wasn't too keen on their returns policy.

That sounds good then. A user on Kitz isn't impressed with his D7000 so I believe is returning it. I'll see how I get on with it when it arrives next week though. Glad to hear you seem pleased with it.

I honestly think you will love yours, yeah but there are always people who are unimpressed with stuff, a dragon could fly over there house and **** money and rainbows and they would find fault :P

Hahahaha well put. That made me chuckle.
All I need it for is for decent range like the AC68U, The use of VPN and stable modem. I don't need VOIP or heaps of other stuff. If it can deal with what I want then I'll be pleased.

So do you prefer it to your D6400? As long as you are happy with it.
The other owner on kitz said it feels rather cheap, plastic ports compared to metal on the R7000, less of a heatsink inside the unit (different chip so probably doesn't require such a big heat sink)

I personally didn't expect it to be all bells and whistles for £160. Plenty standalone routers that break that price barrier easily for not many more features.

All singing all dancing meaning? What features are missing from the D7000

Not 100% sure yet but all the Voip options etc were mentioned. I think it will be a hefty price. It is an AC2*** router with a modem most likely broadcom so don't expect it to be cheap.

For my needs there are no features missing from the Netgear other than the ability to bridge the WAN port to the LAN switch to provide an extra 5th LAN port.

But not everybody will have the same needs, for example I have a WAC120 access point from Netgear, it is a business product so has far more wireless features than the D6400 or D7000.

There is no reason why they could not have them other than Netgear choose to not let us configure all the the above features, I can live without those features on the router but some have need etc.

And people such as Billion and Zyxel tend to enable more of these features than Netgear.

I think this device does fit my needs, Thats why I was pretty excited for its release. If it is stable, It provides the distance and provides a stable vpn then the device is a success in my eyes.

What are the thoughts on pricing at the moment? Think the preorder price will be less than standard price? Still not sure whether to bother or not...

It all depends if you think it will be worth it at the end of the day. Can you justify spending that much on a new device?

Prices will always come down. It just depends how long you are willing to wait.

Mine should also be here tomorrow. Just remember to update the firmware to the latest one as in the release notes it mentioned something about IPTV support.
I may need get time to play about with it until Thursday though but will have a look in the menus when I get a chance.

So I have placed an order for this router - can anyone confirm how I configure it for IPTV?

Ricke, Have you read through the manual searching for IPTV stuff? Plenty tags on it and it appears there are drop down selection points for IPTV in the internet setup menus. Or look at page 215.

I think broadcom chips are more known for stability rather than speed.

Using an Asus, I can tell you that I got a sync of 68Mb and a fluctuating SNR of between 6 and 3.5dB. Adjusting settings to get my speed back to around 72Mb took in a fair few thousand CRC errors and around 5 million FEC's

Using the Netgear D6400
I had a solid 7.5db SNR, My max speed of 74Mb was back, 2 CRC's and approx 500,000 FEC's.

It is clear that a Broadcom chip based modem is much more happier on my line.

Hard to tell. This chip is G.fast capable in the D7000 but will it be supported, Who knows. Hopefully as they said the D6400 wouldn't support G.Inp until the next firmware update and it already did on standard firmware.

I'm not 100% sure to be honest, I don't use IPTV.
Bitsnbobs would be the one to ask as he setup the D6400 for IPTV. Mine has arrived so will look through the menus later on.

Have you tried enabling the other LAN ports and trying them? Setting the bridge mode etc? Does it allow internet through port 4 now that it is enabled for IPTV?

So you have a cat 6 cable coming from port 4 on the D7000 going to a switch then off to your different devices?
From my understanding on IPTV, I would have thought you would have had to run directly to the youview box then another cable from port 3 to feed the network switch? I could however be totally wrong there. That is just how I understand it. Have you tried directly feeding it? Latest firmware installed?

I have no idea. That was a best guess. It could well be wrong.
I don't use IPTV nor know anyone that does so my help will be very limited. Ideally you need to get a step by step instruction by someone in the know.
