netgear wireless doesnt work

i have a mate with this prob what is a mac address and where can i find it ?

How about this thread?

As for the OP, the output from (start, run, cmd) ipconfig /all might be useful, and try pinging (start, run, cmd, ping [IP/address]) both bbc.co.uk and 212.58.224.131. If it's getting to the router, there shouldn't be any significant issue getting to the internet.

didnt have much time over the weekend, but I managed to not be able to see the network at all to connect to. so still have a cable trailing all over the house.

tonight I will do a full reboot of everything and see how I get on :)

the mac address on the wireless USB adaptor is on the label on the back of the unit.

chaparral,

with a cable, I can connect to the internet fine (and it is quite fast as well)

just with wireless it wont do anything.
think it is a windows setup problem.
Am getting the same problem with my xbox360 went connected by wireless..It's connects to the router fine and i can stream stuff off the PC...

But i can't connect to xboxLive

i have got tonight off, so I am going to have a play around.

going to turn everything off, and start again with only the wireless connected to start with. see what happens :)

With the router have you updated the firmware to the latest version as the original shipped firmware when this router came out was flaky to say the least.

i have done this.

I also found new drivers for the USB adaptor...but none of the later versions seem to load at all. they just fall over as soon as you double click the exe.

My xbox360 is working fine now by wireless and i haven't done anything

I wonder if xbox live was down ???

i tried all sorts last night.

i think it is my pc that is causing an issue.

when i plug in the wireless adaptor (usb) it just starts flashing the ble light. never stops :) literally forever.

i tried uninstalling the driver, installing the new one.

windows just cannot see the network any more.

i tried booting in safe mode to uninstall the drivers, etcetc.

nothing seems to work.
it is about time I did a rebuild anyway so will probably give the machine a good cleanout before I start getting into it again.

what a nightmare.

I sorted mine...

You have to remove the old drivers before installing the latest 5.0's as some weird message pops up with something about Binary files missing :S

I had no clue what that was.

Follow the instructions on the driver download page and it should be fine.

Although sometimes when i start my pc it says device malfunctioned and is not recognized and sometimes it works but it won't connect.

I just turn my pc off for 2 mins and then back on and it's fine..

Netgear seriously need to work on there drivers for version 6.0..

Still not quite happy.

I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling these drivers about 9 times now.

My wireless connection says...

Wireless Connection 10.. lol

Also for some reason it's changed from my auto channel to one that i don't usually use.. but as long as it's working its ok :D

Don't know if i made sense there.. wasn't really concentrating..

Ok it just crashed again from the time it took me to start my pc to writing this message and clicking submit.. it's just crashed... For about the 15th time since i've had it.. probably more..

Edit : Whilst typing this message the adapter stopped working for 45 mins.. After turning my pc off about 6 or 7 times it started working again out of nowhere for no reason.. no settings changed.. no nothing.. it just started working...

Can i ask where you all have your adapters placed? I've moved mine to a usb port in the front as at the back it was under my whole desk.. now it's sort of half and half..

I'm thinking of ordering a usb extension cable as the one with it is like 0.4m haha..

I just moved it out from the desk and it got 2 more signal blobs and went to 108mbps..

It should be running at 270mbps.. I wonder if it'll go up if i extend it to the top of the cuboard down here..

Perhaps i'd need to buy 2.. i'm not sure 1.8m would work..

Man this adapter is causing mayhem..

I don't want to wait for them to be delivered again in 6 working days like last time..

Hmm..........

Most of this is probably jibberish.. sorry. Wasn't really paying attention..

I was just typing every single thought that came into my head.

Ok i'm still doing it. *hides*

mine is now on wireless connection 15 or something :)

i find now that when I plug it in the blue light just flashes. doesnt matter what port it is in. it just doesnt stop flashing.

it cannot find the network.

also, when you go to properties it doesnt give me any wireless settings tab anymore (which makes me think windows doesnt like it)

I have tried old drivers, uninstalled and new drivers, back to old drivers.

this thing is rubbish.

will have another go after I have done a re-install (need it anyway, but didnt think I wireless adaptor would drive me to it!!!!!)

I only have my WN121T USB Wireless adaptor about 10ft from the router in the same room....

I have a PC downstairs which only has a netgear 54mbps PCI wireless card installed which connects with the router which is upstairs at 54mbps....

I also pick up next doors wireless signal at 80% :p (i have no idea what wireless router there using)

But i have noticed that my router seems to pickup siqnals stronger if it set to only up to 130mbps or G&B only speeds ,instead of 270mbps

Don't worry about re-installing...

My adapter chooses to work when it wants to...

Just restart your pc a few times and it'll start working...

Takes up to 10 minutes to start working and about 5 re-boots of the pc but then it's fine...

So annoying..

My adapter says

"limited or no connectivity"

"drivers not installed"

"device has malfunctioned and is not recognized"

I love this adapter... it's so great :) Not... I'm going to get a hammer in a minute..

so what is your solution?

i just want to turn on my PC and connect to my wireless modem router...to save me running cables all over the house :)

I'm thinking it may be something to do with the signal.. When it drops out it seems fine though.. it's still connected but i just don't have any net connection..

Took me 25 mins for it to start working today. Turned it on at 10:30 restarted it twice and at 10:55 it started working again for no reason..

Hey-Prestooooooooooo

Maybe i should buy some usb extensions and put the card on top of the cabinet down here.

So i have to buy cables to make a wireless adapter work correctly.. yay more wires.. i bought this card to stop that kind of thing..
