That will do me thinks
The game has a very different feel to it from NWN1. The artwork on the character screens and store inventories seems more like an Ultima or Gothica game to me. The feel of the mouse isn’t quite as snappy or fluid as nwn1, although this could be the way my mouse is set up. Overall I really like the user interface so far. The graphics are just incredible. The screen shots don’t do it justice. I haven’t gotten more than a few minutes into the game, but the characters and the environment seem very real to me. The most important part however is I can say that the same feelings that I got when I played Planscape Torment, BG2, Fallout, Dagger fall, Ultima ect… is very much real and alive in this game. Not sure exactly what quality that is, but I do know when its missing.
I cant remember the last time I've had so much fun playing a game. I thought oblivion would be like this, but we know that story. I've been playing for a few hours now, im totally blown away.
I'm liking it so far... I'm one of the ones waiting on the patch issue to be resolved today as well... but from what I've played... everything looks great... the humor in the game is definately highlighted though the tone shifts a good deal when needed.
The graphics are great, I am running with everything maxed except shadows and get 20fps which plays very smooth. ( AMD64 4400, 2 gig, Nvidia7950, 1920 x 1200 )
The world terrain is amazing, it feels much more organic than the tile based NWN1.
The cut scenes are great, I was surprised how much lip syncing adds.
The tutorial is very well done, it isn't too oppressive and helps introduce the characters and gets the story started.
The henchmen controls are very good, the ability to completely control your henchman makes life much better.
The combat seems to move at a good pace, although I haven't gotten the hang of the camera yet so I sometimes miss out on the action as I and spinning my camera around during combat.
Overall it seems like a worthy sequel to NWN1, and personally so far the Official Campaign seems better
runs about as good as oblivion does (20-30fps depending on traffic), looks better than NWN1, but character customization is really lacking. Combat animations are awful, NWN1 was much better in this department. I've tried to find some good points but all I can come up with is I like what I've seen so far for the spell effects, and the way conversations are handled is neat. Other than that it plays just like NWN1. If you told me that what I was playing was a new community made mod for NWN1 that just improved the graphics a bit, I'd probably believe you.
Except that with a lower than reccommended (but higher than minimum requirement) graphics card, it is as slow as molasses in winter. (My system hits all the recommended specs except the graphics card- 3 GHz, 1 gig of RAM, blah, blah). Even with the graphics settings on low and shadows off its still a bit sluggish. And the pathfinding is not optimized- there is a notable hesitation between clicking somewhere and the characters moving.
I'm still experimenting with the camera modes to find a good one.
On the other hand, there are far more people in the village than were usually in any given area in NWN1.
One final impression. The voice acting is horrible. Partly its the random accents. Village is pretty generic, except for this guy, who's got a Southern US accent, and this kid, who's got a British cockney-ish accent. But they're all from the same pissant village.
Also, the voice actors are horribly wooden: 'We. are. clearly. reading. a. script. Rather than. having. a. conversation.'
The have clearly learned some things from Bioware games. Foster father is an elf, rather than a human (avoiding stupid logic issues of a human raising an elf child thats clearly older than he is). Subplots are introduced, even in the tutorial area. Some are even intriguing. Tutorial is skippable, help tips are in their own box, not part of dialog, and you can turn them off.
Be wary about what you read here. Apparently there is a limit to how honest the moderators allow us to be.
dunniteowl (a moderator) has showed what this board is all about. If you post an honest but extremely negative review of NWN2, you're going to be called a spammer and a flamer, and your thread will get locked down. If you post an extremely positive review on the other hand, it's perfectly fine.
Look in the thread called "This game blows." It turned from an extremely negative review in the thread title to an extremely positive review in the first post. If it was the former it would have been locked by dunniteowl, but since it turned out to be the latter, it was left alone by dunniteowl.
a brilliant game..
but please add some more variants in the char appearance customization.
graphics's is good and it works pretty well in 1900*1200
The story is nice and the dialog is great..
But i hope Obsidian will add an option to use 2d Pictures for faces for some more variations..
Sound and music is ok..
