New 120Hz/"240Hz" VA monitor for gamers (Eizo Foris FG2421)

Mine was from Germany. I have ordered a Qnix instead now. Will wait till later in the new year and see how this monitor is then.

There is no point in a monitor like this if the supposed deep blacks are not black at all if you have a big glaring greyish patch all the way down the right hand side.

I never really understand calibration equipment and using others settings, and then saying it looks to yellow, blue, bright etc, surely just set it to what YOU like and be done with it.

Some of the "pro" gaming presets look awful and just makes me think, what the .... You spend £400+ on a 24" screen and you want it to look like that, no thank you.

Got mine set just the way i like it and its perfect, for me.

Well you calibrate it so that it is as close to real world colour as possible... This will likely give the best result on whatever you use it with as the colours are as close as possible to reality.... This is what gaming graphics aim for right... Looking as real as possible.... Once you have the colours as close to reference as possible you could then increase the saturation if you want something that looks a bit more vibrant.

I think 6500k is supposed to be a bit "yellowy" because it is supposed to represent natural light, Which is "yellowy".... but you can calibrate it to 7000k or similar if you want it more blue and less yellow... Really there is no reason not to calibrate a monitor to be a close to reference as possible... It will always be better.

Mine was made in germany most of the faulty ones also were made there. Some of the good ones we're built in Norway think.

Just to confirm, the label on the back of the monitor said "Made In Germany" and not Japan?

EDIT: http://www.eizo.ch/de/about-eizo/made-in-japan-germany/

Found they actually do make monitors in Japan and Germany. Could it be as simple as the German made ones have issues?

Mine also made in japan and no issues at all, best monitor i have ever owned, shame about the pricing on overclockers, i got mine £110 cheaper.

Took delivery on mine from OcUK on Friday. I was a bit anxious about the monitor because I had read that people had been having issues with the panels being rather bad on one side (particularly the right side of the panel).

The first thing I did after setting it up was to check out a full black screen and thankfully there were zero problems. Had it not been for the blue LED indicating it was on then I would've sworn the monitor was turned off!

I've yet to toggle with colour calibration and the profile settings but so far I'm loving this monitor. It's probably the best purchase in terms of an upgrade that I've ever made. Sitting right next to it is my old LG TN 1080p and it puts it hugely to shame. I was on the fence about picking up two more of these for eyefinity action but now I'm definitely going to be buying them down the line.#

As for the Japan vs. Germany discussion - I just checked my box and it was made in Japan.

VA screens always get a "wow", due to the black levels.
I myself was astonished to see such a good black level when I got my first VA monitor, many years ago.
2 years ago, I bought a DELL IPS monitor and realised just how bad (budget) IPS technology is.

Once you have seen a good plasma, CRT or VA monitor is action, IPS technology just won't cut it, for graphics and movies.

For those who want to see a decent VA monitor, at a cheaper price, they can try getting the Benq range of VA monitors. A 24" version can be had for well under £200.

The problem if VA monitors though (of all brands, even Eizo) is the quality control. Ive noticed that IPS monitors seem to be more consistent, while VA monitors are hit and miss.

Check the sticker on the back of the monitor for its built location, not the box. I have had two monitors that were made in Japan and both of them had the same issues with the edges.

What was the problem with yours exactly was light coming through the edges
in dark games?
where did you get them?

6500k is meant to be sort of yellow though?

If hes just switched from the BenQ most of the gaming BenQs out the box are closer to 6900-7200K or so and very blue :| and its quite noticeable going straight to a properly calibrated 6500K (that they are much warmer colored).

Thanks, I'm used to 9300k at work and the BenQ at home was running the Lightboost hack so just something I'm not used to as opposed to being wrong.

Games, movies and 2D images. Worse on the right hand edges but some on the left and top. Blacks were perfectly fine but dark greys, reds and browns showed up worse.

Easiest thing to do is fire up solid colours on your desktop background and check the greys, browns and reds.

When I first got my VA monitor (some 5 yrs back), I was amazed how close its image quality was, compared with my Sony Trinitron CRT monitor.

Years later, I bought a DELL IPS monitor and in terms of colour reproduction, it was terrible. The main reason for this was the black levels. This is why I say, once you have seen a good CRT, a plasma or VA monitor, you will realise just how poor an IPS monitor is, when it comes to displaying graphics/video. The black levels are what bring out the colours.

Apparently OLED monitors which should be affordable soon, offer the contrast ratio of a plasma, while offering the power usage levels of an LED backlit LCD screen. So, best of both Worlds.

Kuro levels of black or what? I have never owned a display apart from my CRT that did black and god i miss it. As you say its the most important color on displays and has yet to be fully mastered i believe. Turn on the eizo on a blank black desktop and then turn off the display. Do they match or can you see a difference?
