New 24" iMac 2.8Ghz Extreme - Ordered

Cheers. Do you find the new macs quite speedy to use? How do they compare to windows for navigating, opening windows etc? The one i had was quite slow, i guess perhaps a trip to the new mac store in glasgow is in order :)

I have the following spec;

24" iMac
2.8GHz Extreme
4GB RAM
750GB Hard Drive
Logitech G5

..and it is a flying machine, window response is instant, and apps open v.v.fast on initial boot, and then it's instantaneous after that :)

@ Slogan.. had my 24" for a month or so.. still getting to grips with the size!!

Not sure whether to get one of them or the Mac Pro now.

I think if they did go Quad I would get one (as much as I want a Pro). 30" iMac would be even nicer.

Just blown away by it I was. My MacBook Pro went in to get fixed (:(). Finished superdrive, dead pixel right in the middle of the screen, strange CPU-vibration that no one understands and after detailing all of those he turned round and said: 'And your power button is bust as well'.

:(

What do you have to do to get a replacement?

I think a handstand combined with a hip thrust would get me closer.

They unfortunately didn't include the weird vibration thing in the notes for repair - so if it comes back and is the same way - I'll have to ask for a replacement.

Superdrive has been ordered today and the screen may or may not get fixed. I'm hoping it does but I'm not optimistic.

That would be me. It seemed the most appropriate to bump although WotDa's 'resolution scaling' was a close second. I believe it was his anyway.

Any chance of these going Quad any time soon? (I'm trying to make this post useful with this question)

I'm no technical whizz, but surely Apple could cellotape two Core 2 Duos onto the motherboard or something?

Or get them to make a 'special one'..

LOL cellotape!!!!

I think ROCK who do beasty laptops have released a quad core laptop with some mad graphics etc?

I just doubt Apple would see a market for quad core iMacs tbh, its a home computer target - I know for one I dont NEED a quad core - this 2.8GHz is quite enough

I suppose that's very true.

Tough one. I really liked the iMac when I saw it today but when I add all I want in the iMac, I'm only about £200-300 shy of a Mac Pro. And I would get a 30" display with that.

Decisions. Good thing I'm broke and have plenty of time to decide.
