New AMD 300 series chiphell benchies

So, hang on, the 'island picture' in the chart is the 300 series? But it's being beaten by an older 295X2, and by the same token that means a 290X Crossfire set-up would beat it too?

Would be very unusual for the next gen 300 to have twice the power of the previous flagship. 7990 beats a 290x for raw power etc, sure the 6990 was the same vs the 7970.

Sounds about right. Sadly the days of double performance for each new GPU generation are behind us (4870 to 5870 was epic!), so the new AMD card will be slower than the 295X2, but hopefully noticeably faster than a single 290X.

As others have said, looks promising but I'm still taking a large amount of salt with this one.

I see your point. And this is presumably a 4GB card. Power demand still quite high compared to 970/980 though (and worse than 290X oddly), but temps are decent.

Wow and I have to say that is impressive.

I checked Kaaps FSE bench and grabbed the top scores.

Top GFX score is 8331 and according to the article, the 3xx scores 8374. You AMD guys are in for a proper treat by the looks of it.

But worse power draw. How have they not improved that?

It looks like to me (and I know nothing) that they have increased perf over 290x by ~50% between Firestrike and game perf. The watts on load are only 7 watts higher.

Looks like to me they made some savings with HBM in power, then used the extra room this has created to go HAM on the core, making it faster, rather than making it slower to be lower on the power charts in reviews that IRL only effect what PSU you'll need rather than any money concerns over electricity bills.

TL:DR They squeeze out more power with HBM to put to the core, owing to the absence of any die shrink, rather than creating a stupid enthusiast card that focuses more on power usage than performance. I like that.

The only 'issue' I could possibly see is it being reference watercooled. But if you like that kind of thing...

EDIT: If that's stock, then what about overclocked?! Also helped by the apparent low temps on the graph. It'll be interesting to see what this 'forces' Nvidia to finally reveal.

They have,380x is rumored to have 4096 stream processors,thats a 290x +40% processors.It only consumes a few more Watts than a 290x

Assuming its still on 28nm,thats pretty large efficiency gains

Temp is definitely impressive given those gains. Will be VERY interesting to see what price point these come in at. Is this likely to be a reference card they're using for these tests?
