New Anfield

Clubs make more revenue from their hospitality suites and executive box sales. For example, a box at Liverpool is 41k+VAT per season. This only includes your meal, not booze. Say we whack in another 20 boxes and expand lower teir hospitality lounge capacity, that is worth more to the club in revenue than an extra 10,000 seats which aren't guaranteed to be sold.

Sad as it is, football is no longer a working class game and money talks.
Spot on, Arsenal have supposidly got the most profitable stadium in the world and is 15k less the OT.

Gonna be weird if Liverpool do move, as Anfield is one of the most revered grounds in the country and with due respect to them, the moves of clubs like Sunderland, Man City, Bolton, Boro etc haven't really meant a great deal to people not directly affected.

New stadiums are not built for atmosphere they are built for money.

Its a shame but big clubs need big ticket money these days.

you clearly havent been to the millenium stadium!!
very good atmosphere

Aye, it can be quite decent in Anfield South. Especially when they close the roof over.

Plus, it only cost 130 million to build and is 74,000 odd capacity.

Just a little update/rumour over the new stadium:

There's been a few reports going around over the last few days and have gathered a bit of pace today saying that when Hicks and Gillett reviewed the plans of the stadium they have also decided to increase the capacity to 80,000.

Like i said its just a rumour at the moment but interesting never the less, here's a link to the orginal source:

The waiting list is 15,000 for season tickets, the priority ticket scheme is capped at 2,000 and backlogged to 5,000. I think we would fill 70,000 no problems and then use the rest for epic games. However, would prefer a very profit driven 70k stadium expandable to 80k when we want.

Really hope they do decide to go for a bigger capacity, the atmosphere anfield creates with a relatively low attandence level compared to the "big" stadiums in europe is amazing, Given the extra seats i think this new stadium could be the be the best in the world.

But another way to look at it is you get an extra 40k people, thats unlikely to be filled with the same equally passionate fans and atmosphere decreases.
Take OT its easy to get a ticket these days so theres a lot of non fans who just fancy a trip to Old trafford for the day.

I reckon that extra 60k could be detrimental for you

The waiting list for season tickets is nearer 40,000, but i suspect something like only 15,000 would take up the offer if it arose.
If im not mistaken the waiting list for season tickets is now between 56,000 and 60,000, but like you say the real number is proberly closer to 15,000-20,000.

I have to admit i would have a slight concern over filling 80,000 reguarly if they were to make it 80,000 but on the other hand to get tickets at anfield has gone from very difficult to impossible over the last few years (to non-season ticket holders or fancard holders with a regular attendance), so im pretty sure there would only be a problem for the "lesser" games carling cup and the likes of Fulham (no disrespect) etc.

And like others have said they will change the structure of ticketing for matches to attract the families/day trippers etc and also have a greater range of pricing.

And anyway ripper; there no need to be jelous, you'll just have to be content with the 2nd biggest stadium along with the 2nd most European Cups and Leagues :p :D ;)

ps: that last comment was a joke before any Liverpool/Utd arguement starts.

Will Liverpool welcome the prawn sandwich brigade? ;)
It looks as if they will if this goes ahead.

Just another point on the stadium; when Parry submitted the plans for the initial 60,000 seater stadium he said that expanding the capacity in the future was out of the question due to the stanley park being a listed site.

I dont think it would be detrimental to have a further increase in capacity. Liverpool fans generally are pretty passionate, and you cant help but get swept up when YNWA is in full chorus, even if you dont know all the words! But it is fair to say that we do not want a situation where we have a massive stadium that is only ever partially full, so proper consideration should be taken. I can see why 20000 extra seats might cause some concern but surely another 5000 seats or so wont do no harm.

Can they not just build a stadium that still possesses the ability to be further expanded if they want to a few years down the line?
Like i said in my last post; when we initially submitted the plans for the 60,000 seater Parry said that they couldn't expand it due to the site being grade II listed. Now if we are to successfully get plans for an 80,000 seater then what Parry said goes out of the window. The only reasons as to why they would go ahead with an 80,000 capacity rather than the 60,000 with the option to expand it, would be either they beleive that they could fill the 80,000 seater through a similar ticketing style to what Utd have or that it would be far cheaper to go for 80,000 straight away rather then 60,000 then a further 20,000.
