New Apple Hardware - Today?

Definitely am tempted by the top spec 27". I had considered a mac pro and using my two existing 22" screens but this may be a better option. The most intensive thing I would do is HD Video editing and virtual machines. Also would plan to run a few games in bootcamp. Would there be much advantage of using mac pro over this new imac?

Well in theory the base £1900 mac pro is actually slower strangely. I suspect it'll be very comparable in real life though. So unless you're going to spend some additional cash upgrading the mac pro then it's not worth considering it really.

I've always said the mac pro is a workstation and as such only buy it if you need a workstation...

Reckon the mouse will be available in store tomorrow? Might wander in with out of date student card to try and blag a discount! Can I get discounts on peripherals?

I just spoke to the Lakeside store and they said they're going to have them in "by Friday", he said that means they could have them any day between now and Friday. It's worth buzzing your local store.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ;)

And if you look back even further in the thread you'll see I posted the HE discount prices for the new stuff which does include the mouse.

It is a lot of money for the mac pro and I'd probably want to update my old 22" screens anyways so I may just use them with my old pc instead. For video editing I will just use a firewire disk. I don't really think I could afford extra drives for the mac pro after spending that money! New imac has more RAM and bigger hard drive as standard so I think its win win.

Very nice.

I think a couple of Magic Mice will need to be bought to replace mine and the girlfriends rubbish Mighty Mice!

I would like a 27" iMac too but my old 24" is still more than enough for me so when that dies I will get another!

I've just had a quick look at the 27", 2.66 Quad core i5 and noticed a pricing error...

If you choose an Apple Mouse instead of a Magic Mouse, the price drops by 1p, however, the shown cost of upgrading from the stock 4Gb RAM drops from £160 to £139.13 for 8Gb.

Ok, just had another look to make sure and the summary price actually reflects the original £160... ah well. :)

Nice new Apple Remote too...

Seems that the new MacBook now has the same screen as the Pro according to Macworld.

"The new model, while still clad in white polycarbonate, now features the same unibody construction and bright LED-backlit screens as Apple’s other laptops, as well as the same glass multi-touch trackpad found in the MacBook Pro line."

My prayers were answered.. a nice Mac Mini server for me (when the house gets going)

NOM NOM NOM

I'll wait for the next iMac.. with Blu-Ray ;)

OMG!

I'm gonna get me one of those 27" iMacs. They look awesome!

Shame it doesn't have a Blu Ray drive, it's kinda like they were going to have a blu ray drive all along then pulled out at the last minute. The whole design screams that it should have one! The description video is touting all the HD stuff like 16:9 and has HD content playing on the screens...Maybe they are trying to push HD rentals more?
