New BMI Calculation :D

I can't see me getting back to what I weighed as a teenager, which is what would make me "average".
I could lose one stone maybe, but not three.

It seems from the responses here that the new system marks people favourably (down) if they're less than 24 and unfavourably (up) if they're in the 30s. Like for me, it marked me up from 35.8 to 36.4.

Yes... A calculation that only uses height and weight will somehow take into account age :p

Lol BMI is so terrible, it has freefaller thinking hes overweight!!

There is no way I could get to normal on a BMI :(

Not really, the article describes the differences. Short people will receive an increase in BMI score, tall people a decrease. Average height and weight people (the population mean), should change much.

If you were tall and average weight the old scale had a tendency to give high BMI values because it did not take into account the general volume increase in height. with the new scale, tall people with an average weight should come out with an average BMI, just like average height +weight people.

If your score went up it is because you are shorter and the old scale did not appropriately adjust for that.

It is not terrible for a vast majority of people, it is is a good quick approximate for average people. For the tiny minority of people that have large muscle masses then the BMI will give a high reading, which is correct. The problem only arises from poor interpretation of the results. A high BMI doesn't directly equate to high body fat, but it does directly relate to a high body mass for your height which is exactly what it aims to measure .
