tried swapping the cable round and no luck, where are the jumpers to reset bios?
EDIT: does this all not just sound like a power issue or something? the mobo would def be to blame yes? as if it was anything else i would atleast get something on screen etc. wouldn't i?
Check the manual, Im trying to check the Asus website but its sooo sllooowww.
Last one I checked the P5K it was above the terminal strip were the speaker ect
connect to.
Finaly got the manual, its labeled CLRTC and is next the the battery, remove the battery, move the jumper accross and leave for 10 seconds, reinstate the battery move the jumper accross to pins 1 & 2.
Could be psu then, had that at work numerous of times.
Or it could be a shorting issue, something on the case, just try unplugging the hdd and cd-rom etc, see what happens, failing that, assemble it outside of the case I guess...May help.
ok just home there, i'm going to take it all apart and build it on my table....if it doesn't work i'll try my psu (in sig) and see if that's the problem

EDIT:
does the same thing happen where the fans spin up and then it just turns off
Yeah it has showed those symptoms before, but we've also had them where thing's have been shorting for some reason...Could be something as simple as a faulty cable somewhere.
