New build won't boot with gpu installed please help

I have just ran and got an r9 380 from a friend and it works no problem.

Tried my card on his rig and it's acting the same as it does on my new machine. However his rig also has a 520w psu.

Do we think the gpu is doa or possibly still a psu wattage issue ?

Imo it's Doa. The fact that it does not boot on your friends PC assuming he has a decent 520 Psu points to this.

im itching to ask if you have a carpet where you first touched the card with your hands :D
it's easy to kill a GPU you handle for the first time with static if you are not grounded

My guess is that card is DOA.

Does it have a dual BIOS switch by any chance? And if so then have you tried booted using both of them?

The switch should only be used with the PC off. Don't hot switch it.

Also try using dvi instead of HDMI if you can. I used to run my PC to a TV using HDMI a few years ago and had nothing but problems with it. Using dvi instead should help with troubleshooting.

That PSU is plenty for the card, its a high quality PSU with a solid amount of AMPs on the 12V rail, not a cheap one.

Ok i will return it - the wait continues :( thanks everyone for the help and advice.

You have my sympathy. It's terrible to build a machine only to find that one part doesn't work.

At least it's one of the most simple ones to replace though so when you get a new one you can just plug and play. Worst of all is when it's the CPU or board because then you have to strip the entire machine down.

I have posted in that section, I'm really tempted to go to my local shop and buy another card. I took Monday off work to mess around with my new rig and I can't even use it now :(
