New car for summer fun

Get it in Trophy Blue... ;)

Seriously, when its polished and in the sun it just glows, looks fantastic

Sorry to hear it wasn't as good as it seemed, plenty more out there though mate! :)

The Renault dealer in Norwich has new TFs  starting at £11K OTR, upto £14K for fully-loaded ones. That makes an '05-reg for £7K look quite expensive.

Given that W and X Reg Boxsters start at £8K, I'd stretch the budget a fraction and buy German. Yes, it's more expensive to run, but if it's a weekend toy and you steer clear of OPCs and use independents, then it's not that bad.

[Edit]Just checked, and the cheaper ones are gone, and the sun's come out so they now finish at £16K - double:eek:[/Edit]

Why would anyone buy one for 16k???

16k gets you a new MX-5 which is a million times better, total joke imho.

7k won't buy much of an Elise. It'll be fairly high miles, stone chipped and the interior will probably be in need of a retrim.

A VX220 would be a better buy but then you have all the issues of "I have a Vauxhall but it's really an Elise" at the pub.

To be honest, I thought the S1 Elises were cheaper than VX220s at the moment. If that's not the case, hell yes! A VX220! Better than getting ribbed in the pub for having a girl's car ;)

Old jags have straight-6's, no v6s until the new s-type and new xj6 came out. Bulletproof ones at that. Fair point though. I suppose you either love them or you don't.

I have ;)

But, when someone owns a K-Series engined car, you can't tell them too many times to check the coolant!

;)

It's a shame but your right. At least is nice an easy to check though being right in front of you in the boot. For the really lazy you can get an alarm/warning light kit.

Sneaky - a shame that car did not work out, for £7k it should have been an absolute minter but it sounded more like my car! (I paid £7.5k 2 years ago which was a touch cheap at the time!) Might be worth looking for one with more mileage and possibly the HG already changed? These cars do not seem to like to stand around. My car lasted for nearly 4 years and 52k miles before needing the Head gasket, the garage where I had it fixed though, their demonstrator had the gasket go after 4 years and 4k miles.

Did you manage to have a drive in it, or in another one yet? There are plenty out there to look at so I am sure you will find one you like!

Elises and VX220s are great I'm sure but a totally different proposition to the MG. Ok they drive faster and better but then the boot is small and the roof is not the easiest to work with, then for the money you will be buying a much older and probably more worn out car.

An XJS is hardly a boat. I don't see much of a track record for MGF's.

Plus MGFs are dingy, fat little things that every peasant and his dog is driving around in. Soft-top late XJSs are among the most beautiful cars ever designed. If the man wants practicality he should go buy a Xsara Picasso is all I'm saying. Plus chances are that MGF will spend more time in the garage than a good XJS.
