New car misting windows

Is it full climate control, or just basic 'air con'..

I say this because a lot of newer climate systems will automatically use re-circ a lot more to maintain heat in the cabin, and for other reasons..

And also Air Conditioning acts as a dehumidifier, and removes moisture from the air, so having it on has more then just a cooling effect..

[edit].. blimey too slow today!..

I've tried the just heater approach and then air-con approach to demisting, air-con is 10 times faster (rule of thumb 10 times that is)..

Full climate control
Re-circ stays off the whole time (checked that)
Using full heat has no effect at all not even a little.

This is really annoying

This is common in large cars with AC. When you switch the AC off, the condenser is still damp. Air being taken into the car is still drawn through the condenser even with it turned off, where it picks up moisture. This combined with moisture outside steams the windows up quicker than a car without AC.

You have two options:

a) Use the AC all the time, the fuel economy wont make any difference
b) Switch the AC off and leave it off for long enough to dry the condenser.

c) Learn that using a 2.5 V6 as a 'runaround' when you have a Jag XJR is the most pointless thing in the world and will cost you more than it saves, sell the Mondeo.. sorry X Type immediatly and use your XJR :p

I laugh at the people who do not know the benefit of AC in the winter.

Also, replace the pollen filter. On the Mk2 Mondeo it's under the trim between bonnet and windscreen on passenger side of car, perhaps in the same place on the X type. They are about £5-£10 to buy new.

Used to leave my AC on all the time, but I noticed it did have a fairly considerable impact on fuel consumption, so I've taken to only using it for demisting at the moment. I find that flicking it on for a few minutes will clear the windows nicely, then I cant switch it off leaving the fan set to windscreen and it keeps it at bay. If I have several people in the car it's easier to leave it on.

Might try and pick up one of those moisture absorbers, if the smell isn't too fruity. Suppose their available at Halfrauds?

If you clear the mist with the air-con and then it returns when you switch the air-con off I'd say you have a leak somewhere.

Possibly; the door seals, windsreen itself, pollen filter (as mentioned already) and/or filter housing or somewhere in the front bulkhead like a wiring loom or water pipe grommet.

If it's worse on or after wet days then you've defo got a leak. If it's always the same even on dry days then I like the theory that [TW]Fox had.........although I don't think there should really be any moisture on the condensor anyway or there would still be mist with the A/C on..........I think.........hhmmmm gonna think some more on that.

Using the "Mondeo" does save me a considerable amount of money, even including Tax, MOT's and Insurance. My boss has a Arnage T, the XJR is about 3/5MPG more efficient.....that’s it. They really didn’t consider fuel consumption when making the XJR.

Fuel comsumption mainly, plus this time of year A/C isnt really needed.

Using full heat doesnt have any effect either.

A/C is needed if its fitted in my experience....

Using the Aircon on my old 7 Series probably took 1mpg off the car, tops.

It says in the manual of most vehicles that you should periodically use the aircon to keep the system working.

Leave it on & enjoy clear windows. - My BMW would mist up if mine was off,as will my truck.

Yet if I get into a similar make / model of truck without aircon, no problem - I assume its down to aircon being plumbed in and some damp residue getting expelled onto the windows.:)

My guess would be a damp carpet or a blocked AC drain.

Speaking of which, I recently managed to get the rear o/s footwell of my Focus soaked. I've mopped up as much of the water as I could & have been putting newspaper down to get the rest but there's still a lot of dampness that I can't get rid of. It's not exactly ideal weather for drying out a car...

Suggestions?
