New card arrived but is it new?

You can't really go wrong with either card, I'd personally give the wind force another try if you're after silence. Gigabyte have never let me down when it comes to sorting faulty products out so you have nothing to worry about.

Apart from that single stagnant white blob at the centre of the screen, i didn't see any artefacts

Where exactly do you think they were?

Also, try recording with MSI AB, it'll be much clearer :)

Even though it is your card in this instance, I just wanted to add that my 7870 is now having issues with Skyrim as well. It's potentially down to the 12.10 drivers, but I'm not 100% as it's been a few releases since I last played.

Just throwing this in, incase you get your new card and Skyrim is still acting up. I am getting the same issues you describe, sky flickers badly, distant terrain flickers, but it seems to be fine inside. So don't panic if you load up skyrim on the new card and are greeted with artifacts again.

I also seem to be having the same issue with Skyrim since updating to 12.10 on my 7870. Flashing sky, I initially thought I'd messed up myself because I'd been editing a mod in creation kit and accidentally deleted something which I thought might have caused it but after disabling the mod, still had issues with flashing sky.

I'm running at stock speeds too and the card has been fine before.

This is from the thread skyrim artifacting. This is why I ask "Maybe this is acceptable with AMD cards?"

I know i read these before, but it cant be acceptable! a lot of people said they have no problems.

Also i know in heaven its hard to see, skyrim is the most obvious. Also when i boot up my PC it artifacts and keeps flashing the screen for ages, it only does it every other boot up though, its not normal, this happend with both cards too.

Ive just tried all the INI tweaks for skyrim and they dont fix anything, so its not the games fault, its still artifacting so bad.

Im trying to find other games that artifact as much but doesnt seem like many, Divinity 2 only does it randomly its hard to make it happen.

I suppose ill try BF3 now see what happens.

I know you hate AMD greg but it cant be normal lol

Yeah ive done all the research a lot of problems but most have fixed theirs with ini tweaks and such, mostly the problems were with shadows and high settings. If i turn all my graphics to very low i still artifact.

Surely can't be that normal... Have you seen the skyrim die hard nerds? If this was a normal issue, they'd be going on a keyboard warrior rampage

I agree and was only looking to see if others had a fix. I certainly wouldn't be a happy bunny if this was my main game.

This is what i mean, im not happy at all!

And if Skyrim is doing it, what happens if more games do it? I havent tried fallout but its about the same and thats another good game i cant play! If so i may have to move to a 660 which i DONT want to do!

Thanks for looking around anyways greg and Cleeecooo you 2 always seem to help everyone else.

Im running battlefield now to see what happens, this is a great game and if this breaks ill have to go Nvidia :\

Well greg BF3 runs max setting 1920x1200 no artifacting at all :\

I thought BF3 was demanding? or is that above this res?

Well no artifacting yet, only had 1 game but it seems really stable. If i cant find any other games that artifact it must be skyrim? Unless skyrim uses most VRAM so it could be a VRAM issue?
