New computer build.

Hi Olivier thanks for the response. I will come back to the benchmarking/stress testing in a minute. Because I have just connected up the second monitor and have got a problem.

The second monitor is darker, I have no idea why. The only thing I can think of is the fact that the DVI ports on my graphics card are different? Anybody know what the problem is?

Thanks :)

The colour option in the driver should be set at default for them (the same), I can adjust my screens independently though if i want to in the Nvidia drive control panel.

I got two options "Other applications control the colour settings" and "Use nvidia settings"

I get full control with the later.

I don't have two seperate settings like that, not that I can see anyway. I have an ATI graphics card. I have switched round the DVI cables and it's still the same monitor that has the problems. I have also just tried restoring both to factory default. This is so stupid!

I meant Furmark runs GPUs hot BTW :)

If all screen settings are identical, swap the screen DVI ports around and see if the problem is at the GPU ports, or at the screen ends. I doubt swapping cables around would make any difference (since it's all digital), worth a shot as a last resort.

Hi, thanks for the help. I have now run a factory reset, I have switched the DVI cables round both at the GPU end and the screen end. Each time the same monitor has stayed light and the other has stayed dark. I am running out of ideas what to do. Am I going to need to send this back? I still think it is to do with the DVI ports on my graphics card. This is because they are different, this is what I have:

DVI port - Single-link DVI output

DVI - I Port - HDMI supported - HDCP supported - Dual-link DVI output supported

Can this not be the reason?

Thanks :)

Same resolution, same refresh rate?

If it's the same monitor staying less bright no matter what port its using, then it's the monitor. Pump up the brightness maybe, but monitors should be virtually identical from the factory, especially monitors of that caliber. BTW, it looks like an uneven backlight, from the picture. The right side is brighter than the left side, or just the camera.

Also check on Dell support forums. I'm sure you wouldn't be the first having dual 2311H coupled with a ATI card.

In the end, call the supplier (OcUK?) to see if you need a RMA.

Resolution is both 1920x1080 and the refresh rate I think is 60Hz. I cannot seem to find anything on dell forums that really relates to this. I've just realised what you mean, the DVI ports are irrelevant if I have changed them round! I did not buy through overclockers, but from an auction site. I guess I have to return it then?

Thanks for the help.

Guys setting my own colour profile in windows won't help will it?

Thanks

Just the fact you have tried it on different cables and outputs shows that its got a different calibration from the factory.

Is there a Digital Vibrancy setting you can push up to make both monitors more vivid? this might bring up the brightness enough in both screens to make the difference less obvious.

Thanks for the response. No there doesn't seem to be, anyway I contacted Dell and explained the problem. They asked me to send pictures of the monitors, which I did. They then rung me back and said they are both faulty, so they are going to send me new ones. Let's hope these are OK!
