New computer build.

Hello Olivier thanks for the response. The only thing is with that adapter is I don't think it's active, and I think there is a difference. Not sure though!

Also the parts have started arriving :)

Thanks for the response. I can't decide whether to get two monitors and when I play games just use one of them. Or buy three monitors and game on all of them. Will eyefinity with one 6870 make the fps much lower?

Thanks.

Yes it will, as the 6870 will be having to push a much larger resolution.

Eyefinity resolution is around "5040x1050" or "3840x720" which is a lot more pixels than say 1600X1080 etc for a single screen.

Also the special offers change tomorrow, so I will do you a new better spec:)

You don't have to game on three monitors. You can game on one, but that would sort of defeat the point :) Three monitors for desktop is a bit OTT unless you do need the screen space (development work, graphics).

As shown in the video you can triple display on a 6870 OK. The main killers for graphics cards is resolution, so it wont scale very well. Note that 22'' and 24'' resolutions are the same (1080p). You can get 1200p 24'' displays, but they more expensive, often IPS screens, and designed for work.

Thanks as always for the responses guys. It sounds like it is definitely worth sticking with just two for now. Still stuggling with which ones to buy though. I think I linked this one before but I am slowly swaying towards this one:

LG W2361V-PF Full HD TFT LCD 23" HDMI Gaming monitor - £140

Aspect Ratio - 16:9
Resolution - 1920 x 1080
Brightness- 300 cd/m2
Digital Fine Contrast Ratio- 50,000:1
Response Time (GTG) - 2ms
Viewing Angle - 170°/160°
Surface Treatment- 3H, Anti-Glare

Everywhere I look it has good reviews, what do you guys think? Two of these? Or does anyone know of anything better for a similar price?

@stulid - I think you are talking about the spec for my build. I appreciate it, but I have already ordered!

Perhaps I should change the first post?

I suppose. Matte screen always a plus in my book, it's got the right connectors. I don't like the stand, feels light and fragile, and it's not VESA compatible. We used some as TVs for the devkits, and they have good picture, like samsungs very cinematic. Not a fan of el cheapo TN panels, but since your budget wont allow for nice IPS U2311H...

Thanks for the response. Yes that's what everybody seems to say about. The picture is the best thing about it. I think I could buy the IPS if I could find a cheaper one to go with it. The problem with IPS is the tend to have slower response times. I think I could get that particular monitor for about £200. Is there another monitor I could put with it?

Thanks for all the help.

Got a U2311H myself and I play all first person shooters (BLOPS, BC2, etc) not had a single prob with ghosting. That's not to say its not there and on a tn panel it wouldn't be...but for us mere mortals you won't see it! :P

If you shop around you can get a U2311H for £199...cant say where (naming competitors and all that) but recently its been going on offer a lot so keep an eye open at all the big e-tailers. ;)

Well that's three of you that give a thumbs up for that monitor! But the only problem is I do want dual setup.

The other monitor I linked too appears to also be good but would they be suitable for a dual monitor setup?

Thanks.

You wont find a IPS below £220-210. I'm sure you'll be happy with the TNs, as long as you understand their limitations.

- Worse viewing angles.
- Not as well built.
- No VESA mounting possible.
- Not as much connectivity.

A lot of TN panels have rich colours (Some samsungs are almost psychedelic), not necessarily accurate, but looks pretty in games and movies. There is always some amount of correction anyway. The colour quality drops off as the viewing angle increases but it's nowhere near as bad as laptops who have really rubbish screens. IPS have various colour profiles as well but they tend to be a bit more conservative and less in-your-face.

The best you can do is get to a local shop stocking some TN and IPS panels, and then make a better informed decision. They won't be calibrated very well, but you'll get the idea and see for yourself. Again, I game on IPS (and not a particularly fast one) and don't notice any particular lag, but then I've always used IPS panels (since I'm still using my 2407).
