New Computer Burning Smell

Hi I recently built a computer for a colleague and they had said they could smell burning.

I also noticed that the cpu fan is making a noise like it is under load.
I checked the bios and the cpu seems to be idle at 52/53 degrees MoBo says 35 degrees, thats pretty high right?

Anyone know what this could be? What can i do to rectify it?

What is the build spec?

Tried reseating the heatsink on the CPU?

Yeah its high temp, I reseated the heat sink. Any other ideas?

Did you ensure that you took any plastic off the heatsink before you put the CPU on?

That's too high for the CPU in the BIOS.
Try a reseat.

Speed fan says 42... Or similar but fan is on high

CAREFULLY with a very very sharp knife bend it back... slowly... its the reason I like the fact that Intel put their pins on the motherboard... also to me that looks like an awful lot of TIM.

Are you using the stock cooler? If so, that doesn't surprise me.

My 8320 is idling at 22c with the stock cooler dude

My Phenom cooler was horrible!

TIM is the thermal paste, only a small amount is needed.
