New computer problem

The pin outputs on the board marked as xxx_Fan are simply fan power headers, they will not all necessarily have something attached.

It sounds possibly as if the CPU fan is catching on something if it's THAT loud - even at full speed the Alpenfohn would be more of a whine/whoosh than a grinding sound.

With the power disconnected, see if you can manually spin the fans in your computer - try both the CPU and case fans and see if they are spinning freely without noise

I think either the couriers overclockers use are useless, or overclockers are (reviews would suggest there not), My first computer needed me to refit the sound card, the second time it came i needed to re - plug a hard drive, and now with this computer from what i can see everything is fitted together, thats about as far as my expertise is going to go regarding computer hardware, but this will be the 3rd time I've had to send something back to overclockers....

can anyone suggest a different company?

I'd like to think I know enough about computers to deal with these minor inconviences, but this is getting beyond the joke now...
DON'T REMOVE THAT FAN. If you do it'll make the CPU go bang.

Something probably came dislodged in transit which is causing your pc not to post. get on the blower to OCUK and have a chat with them and I'm sure they'll be happy to sort you out a repair/talk you through troubleshooting etc etc.

Ok so, they seem to think it's likely that based on the fan i have, something might be catching on the central fan, and that I should try and giggle them around to overcome this problem, as they can sometimes end up in the wrong position from transit.

Will give this a go when i get back from work / gym and let you guys know what happens

Don't be so dramatic. The K2 can easily handle a cpu at idle with passive cooling. There's also a 120mm fan there if you hadn't noticed.

OP, just unclip the centre fan and have a butchers.

Question, what kind of noise are we on about here? is it a high pitch whine noise (no doubt high rpm fan noise) or is it a vibration noise (un balanced fan) or is it a grating noise (fan blade catching)?

If its high rpm, than yes it should calm down once the comp boots, does the pc actually fully boot? do you get a beep(1 beep is good) or series of beep (can indicate an error).

High rpm or not (and the 140mm only goes up to 1100rpm), it shouldn't be making any kind of loud noises. :)
Some of the Alpenfohn fans can stand a little proud of the frame, however, since the centre fan backs on the heatsink, there should still be enough clearance between it and the other tower.
The only time the 'standing proud' thing could be an issue is if it's mounted with the open side against the heatsink (like being mounted on the rear of the cooler as a pull fan). Edit: Unless it's an extreme case of course.

My 140mm ended up with an intermittent ticking issue. Unless, his fan has something caught in it, it's faulty from the get go.

As for the boot issue. No idea.

Hey guys, all fixed now, soon as took the middle fan off and put it back on it did the trick, must have been something catching on it..

many thanks!!!!

now i can finally get on my way to playing starcraft, the stress is over!
