New CPU Cooling Needed *Help*

Hi guys,
Just recently changed my rig for whats in my sig but i'm using my old cooler-freezer 7 pro (original). I'm using an NZXT Hush case so not great for cooling. At first i was thinking of a H50 but i also think i might just squeeze in a Prolimatech Megahalems, i'd prob do push pull on both with akasa vipers that i've been looking at which may also replace the case fans. Any opinons or suggestions would be good, my temps really aren't great at the minute (put it this way the side of the case is off and idle temps are still embarrassing to mention lol)

Strap another fan on the back of the AC7 for push pull cooling, I've done it to mine & it's so effective I have unplugged my two case exhaust fans to lower the noise. :cool:
 
Fractal design fans for the case, not expensive, and nice and quiet if you use the 1000rpm ones, quiter if u undervolt them too.

Not sure about how much space u have in the case, but either the corsair or the mega will give u far better temps then the freezer pro, but at a cost though.

Really sounds like u just need decent case fans, also not sure what ur cabling is like inside, if its all over the place, try and cable tie it outa the way if possible.

@malc30 how did you manage to get another fan on the back of it? which clips and where did they sit?

@bifday2k the cabling is very tidy and not in the way of anything. with side of case off cpu is @50, on 58 and thats at idle between 70 and 80 under load or gaming. I think the mega may just squeeze in and it'd be damn tight. I just read that the mega was better than h50 and of course some people don't get that good of results with the h50 which is why i'm not sure of which or indeed if anything else would be good. Best of it is the cpu could go much higher lol
 
The corsair is give or take a few degrees the same as the mega in performance, when both use push/pull with decent fans.

But either is gonna cost abit more then malcs little fix, probably best to wait for his reply, to see how he did it, and if it works its a cheap fix.
 
The Mega's actually a tad smaller than the thermalrights which would be best as it is going to be tight anyway.

@bifday2k which does the few degrees favour in the way of? the h50 or mega?
 
The mega wins, but only just. Sorry should have made that clearer in my last post my bad.

For example if u used 2 akasa vipers on both in push/pull the mega would win by a few degree's especially at higher volts.

That would be the cooler to get if u want best performance on air, but space is the key factor there, so thats why some go for the corsair.
 
Thanks bif :) i think those few degrees may count given my temps, i agree that the case isn't the best for cooling but i like the looks so i want to try all options before i consider changing it. Funny thing is my last cpu in this case (E5200) was clocked to the max and ran super cool! You recommend the vipers do you? I was looking at them for the air flow/noise despite the garish colour
 
It was a fan off an old AC7 & I used 2 cable ties, Took about 2 mins & has sat happily since I built this system which has got to of been over 6 months now maybe even a year knowing my borked head memory. :o
 
Well don't forgot it is rather hot these past few days, only reason my comp is'nt heating my room up loads is gfx is in rma, so its a expensive paper weight atm lol.

About the vipers, yeh they are very good fans, expensive i grant you, i have 2 on my watercooling radiator, they are virtully silent upto about 1200rpm, then its like a gentle hum above that, 1600-1900rpm they do get noisy, but what fan dos'nt at that speed.

along with the fans, from ur cpu header, just set ur max temp in bios, and off you go, no messing about.

But to be honest with you the freezer was never a great cooler for qauds, duals yeh qauds no, so getting any of the mid to top end air coolers should drop ur temps quite abit, well as much as it can depending on the rooms ambient.
 
Yeah true all fans are noisy at that speed.
Is the splitter the best way to go? I read a thread where it could draw to much current from the header so advised on rewiring so powered from psu but sensed via header.

Ok about the ac7, good to have some honest experienced advice. Now its decisions decisions time theres so many i like the Noctua d14 too, definitely need to get my case measurement more exact so i know if any will 100% fit.

Might get a couple of the vipers for the case tomorrow whilst i decide on the cooler

When i got mine, i just attached to the cpu header, switched on and was like wtf why are my fans not spinning, so attached the molex conector u can see in the pics of the product to the psu and hey presto fans be a spinning.

Yup i felt a totall numpty haha. I was in the mind set of well im not using all the connectors so won't need the psu to be connected, but yeh numbty me was wrong lol.

So no need to worry about that, it draws the power from the Psu (or aditional power) and the header seems to be only used for sensing and adjusting.

Yup absolutly no need for that, does add afew more wires to tidy up, but thats the price to pay to control both from one header, we can't have everything lol.
 
Why are people still saying the h50 is up there with the good air coolers ? I have to see any proof that it is especially with heavily overclocked high voltage conditions.At best the h50 seems no better than a £20-£30 air cooler from the information I have gathered thus far.
 
Another opinion of why not to get, thanks for the honestly, my friend has a h50 and his results aren't great or even good but i had put that down to his mounting-or lack there of as well as his case and air throughput
 
For C64's info, i only ever recomend the H50, if a person has issues with sizes of the top end air stuff. Not becuase its better, most know it can't compete with top air. But remember those heatsinks are massive and don't fit in all cases.

Also though if its good enough to keep an overclocked I7 in the mid 70's underload, it can't be that bad a cooler, yes the Mega and True can do that too.

If you read the entier post u would see it was only reccomended if the Mega/true and the like won't fit, not becuase its better.
