New Dell IPS S2721DGF 165hz gaming monitor

I've been following this thread and I have decided to finally pull the plug and get this beautiful monitor, but unfortunatelly can't get any of those 15% discount codes to work, they're all invalid or already redeemed or expired. Anyone has a spare one for me to use?

I have treated myself to one of these as its increasingly looking like socialising will be a washout! Time to hunker down and make some backlog inroads.

I owned an 27" Iiyama 144hz a while back, only the colours were awful and it was 1920 x 1080 so resolution was not ideal. Mine is due early November but hopefully sooner (my previous Dell came a lot quicker).

Happily let you know how it goes. I used a voucher from the Daily Mail - I just Googled and definitely not 15%, I think it was 5% but I got impatient and ordered! 15% off makes it a great price. :o
 
People were saying Dell keeps releasing 15% off codes for these all the time,at full price of £390 they are not really a good buy imo because the LG 27GN850 can be bought for £40 more and it has nicer design and likely better build and quality control (same panel).not to mention all these new 34” ultra wide 144hz monitors that are between £350-£430 range.

I do not think of LG as having better build quality than Dell, and I don't think I'm alone.... It's probably just entry market tactics, trying to eat away at the LG's reputation. Get's a lot of people talking about the monitor.

Even without a discount code, I think it's a pretty damn good price. Enjoy the monitor!

In fact it does not have a better design, to me this LG monitor looks worse and chunky. However I don't care much about looks, but on the other hand, the LG is capable of 144hz but the Dell (and the Lenovo y27q-20) reach 165Hz, natively. That makes those 2 better than the LG. As you said, it's the same panel so quality and properties should (more or less) be the same. However, the Dell and the Lenovo can reach a higher frequency, so the LG is a bit behind on that.

The dell for £331 at 165hz and 1440p nano ips 27" is a pretty good deal. Also apparently dell's returns process is better, but I've not owned either an LG or dell item before. Just going on what others have said quite a few pages ago in this current thread.

The LG here at OCUK is £460 that's 130 more than the dell. For me and anyone who wants to save over 100 knickers it's a no brainer.

looks are subjective,I think LG looks a bit more premium and specially I don't like that clunky stand of Dell.
The thing with LG is,it has many good professional reviews and many rate it highly,Dell doesn't have many,infact the RTINGS review of LG isn't that great,it has really poor black uniformity,really bad local dimming and poor contrast.also user experiences here shows very hit and miss experiences,many dead pixels, excessive light bleed,etc
I'm still considering it,but not confident at all,specially when there are monitors such as the new 34" UW Electriq 144Hz 3840 x 1440 QLED VA for just £350.

Yes but LG could be bought for cheaper,430 and Dell discounts are expired at the moment,so it's £390 vs £430 just £40 not £100 right now.
 
I'm still in two minds to get this, I keep reading reviews and watching vids, I've got the TN version, and Dell's build quality is very good! However going to IPS scares me! With the IPS Glow etc... I'm going to wait till xmas is done with, then I've got some spare cash to splash out! Kids are expensive!
 
Finally setup my monitor today and over my previous one its amazing!

I like the adjustable Hight, using standard settings at the moment so need to have a play with them at some point.
 
i too had the s2716dg for 4 years. i bought it as at the time the ips panels had bad blb . i calibrated the monitor using a datacolor 5 pro and got a good picture .it was an A03 revision version. Saw this discussion in early sempember looked at a review ion you tube then bought it . At first i wondered if it was a good idea but now having used it in games for 2 and a half weeks i love it. the picture is very good and the responsiveness in games excellent. So i have sold my s2716dg on ebay. Sad to sse it go but i have moved on .

Just to follow on this. My brother has the LG 850, He ordered from Komplett and has an issue with the monitor. He had to mail it back and was told it can take up to 4 weeks for testing/repairs. As per my previous post, my backlight bleed seems a little excessive so I called Dell. I was told I will have a replacement sent to me within 10 days and then the day after I receive the new monitor, they will collect the old one. That means I'm not without the monitor which to me is exceptional service.

All things considered I agree in that I think that the stand on the Dell is nicer and the build quality seems great. Although my GPU is outdated, 165hz is better than 144hz. Shopping around the cheapest I could get the LG was €490 whereas the Dell cost me €390 so it was a no brainer.

In terms of the ultrawides for similar price. Going by youtube channels and what other people said, they are more expensive monitors to manufacture (just like a 4k 120hz is more expensive to make) so while you could get something in a similar price bracket, it won't be as nice of a monitor as the Dell. I've also had a bad experience with a curved monitor (Samsung C27HG70) and I found the colours of the VA panel to not be as nice. Again some of this is subjective.

My main point is the higher frequency on the Lenovo y27q-20 and this Dell, vs the LG (165Hz vs 144Hz). That's something that makes a difference, especially with a powerful i9 + rtx 3080 system. My main conflict is to pick one between the Lenovo and the Dell. I can get the Lenovo for €400 and this Dell for €389, so price difference is minimal. I just want to pick the right choice!

I can return both at no cost if I am not happy with them, so that's a plus. Still undecided!
 
Whats the best fps to cap at? obviously the monitor can do 165hz (which I currently have it set too) but I am getting a little stutter in the Division 2.

I am guessing this is because I cannot reach 165hz, on the benchmark for the Division 2 I get an average of 71 fps.

So, would I be better off doing the following

1. cap fps at 60hz (as I cannot reach 120\144\165)
2. lower quality down in game to reach 165hz

PC Specs are I7 9700K, 16GB of ram, 1TB NVME Samsung 970 Evo and a 2070S

This is my first monitor like this so its all new to me!, last monitor I had was 6\7 Years ago
