New essential Android apps thread

Right, after two apps:

1.) Is there a dialler that will give me the location of the caller? I've just noticed this on my Mum's Moto G after the Marshmallow update - I used to find this quite useful when I owed an iPhone. Probably one of the few things I missed in the early days after my Android switch...

I've got a Z1, so no simple Marshmallow fix. At least for the time being!

2.) I need an encryption tool (vault) that will allow me to keep 2/3 text files protected on my phone. Something like Truecrypt maybe?

Any suggestions?

Hi guys,

Any ideas on how to clear previously entered email addresses on the Gmail app? My Dad keeps sending emails to my old address

Is there a way of clearing the cache or something?

Thanks.

Is your old email in his address book?
It isn't, no. He's got about half a dozen addresses that he's manually entered that aren't in his address book, my old one being one of them, and now every time he goes to send me a message he's using it :(

I can't believe there's no way to remove pre-filled form info in the app?

Sorry if not the best place for this but has anyone had any issues with alarm clock apps since upgrading to Marshmallow?

I've been using Alarmclock Xtreme (paid version) for years with no issues but since upgrading to Marshmallow on my MotoG (3rd gen) it doesn't work – same issue with my wife’s phone. If I press my power button to view time the alarm then starts to sound - it's as if the phone goes into sleep/power saving mode which the alarm apps cannot override.

I’ve looked into this and thought I’d resolved the problem as some were saying it was the battery optimisation for specific apps not enabling the phone to ‘wake’ on the alarm – the alarm clock app, clock, calendar and android system are not optimised so this problem shouldn’t occur.

I even installed another app called ‘simple alarm clock’ which apparently was written by someone to get around this very issue – it worked Friday (and of course Alarmclock xtreme worked) but hasn’t since.

Strangely the alarm does work if the phone has been used within the last few minutes.

Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated.

Updated
2 April 2015

from the app page, I'm going to say that the app has been abandoned by the developer and simply doesn't support 6.0 properly.

Did you add the alarm app to the battery optimisation whitelist?

I've been using the Google clock app as my alarm with no issues.

Yes, that app, android system, calendar and clock are not optimised.

I've also just added com.qualcomm.timeservice as some have said that helped but I have my doubts.

That's annoying.

In that case, can anyone on Marshmallow recommend a good alarm clock app please?
I use Timely (also has a basic stop-watch, timer, and clock (with widget - which I use to launch the app). It's not been updated since last year either, but it's working fine on Marshmallow on my Nexus 6P and Nexus 5. Can't fault it.

Similar boat here! I was using alarm clock extreme for years - never failed me once until getting a 6p with marshmallow. Now just use the basic Google clock alarm which works fine.. Not as many features obviously but it does the job.

I found that the the alarm clock app i was using for years, would only work if i had my phone on charge over night after moving to 6.0 on my N6. In the end i just deleted and started using the built in alarm clock. If you don't need anything fancy, just stick to using that, as it works perfectly fine.

Right, I used Google Clock last night and alarm worked fine, so thanks for the recommendation.

One thing that I had thought of this morning - at night I used to use the do not disturb function (to stop around 5am) and the alarms set for 6am did work - I haven't used that feature for a while so I might try the other alarm apps and the do not disturb and see if that works.
