New essential Android apps thread

Niagara launcher is my go to now, just much easier. Less customisation, if that's your thing. But it just makes so much sense when you've used it a while.

What's the best music player these days please. I have all the music downloaded and organised in four main folders. Folder 1, 2, 3 and 4, each containing different genres. I am using rocket player currently and have done for many years. So if I am in the mood for pop music, I select folder 1 and shuffle all the music from folder. Rocket player seems to have gotten a lot more resource hungry/heavy these days, are their better music/media players? All my music is locally saved on my phone.
Thanks

I'm still using good old reliable Poweramp. Just had a quick check and there is an option to view by folder, and a shuffle option near the top.

I ended up reinstalling nova launcher to give it another try. It is now much more stable and snappy than the last time I used it.
i wish there was something better to replace it, only because i've used it for about 10 years if not more, and my use hasn't changed from phone to phone, so it can feel a bit stale when you get a new phone and the only thing that changes is the wallpaper, however it's just too customisable. too many features i would miss.

I recently found a brilliant app that keeps the screen on, its called Caffeine, I had been asked by the older generation how to keep the screen on longer, it seems some cheaper phones doesn't have the option in the screen options. My Tablet has a option for 30 minutes but my phone is only up to 10 minutes.

For anyone with Sony headphones - Sound Connect is essential for getting good EQ. Although if you've spent that much money on them, you're likely to know this already...

And just to add, if you have ones that uses LDAC, change the priority in the app to quality, by default it's on stability which I found dropped the codec to AAC for my XM5s.

Is there a widget that I can just click on to set my wifi hot spot and Bluetooth tethering ?

My satnav needs wifi hotspot and Bluetooth tethering turned on everytime I get in the car, so a quick 1 click solution would be a game changer

TomTom AmiGo. It's a free SatNav app that is more like a traditional satnav than Google Map's integration of everything Google, and seems to be much better with speed limits, overspeed notifications and the like.

After finding that my old Garmin was no longer getting FM traffic (the company that supplied traffic data is no longer doing so) and most new satnavs need to tether to a phone for push traffic notifications, I found it easier and cheaper just to get a phone mount and use that instead.

Does it have any monetization or ads in it? Can't see anything obvious on their website.

Why is this better than using Google maps (not being obtrusive, just wondering)

No ads or monetisation. AmiGo looks and works more like a traditional satnav, but can still take data out of your contacts/calendar, etc. I found it fixed lots of little niggles I had with Google Maps. For example, Google kind of switches itself off when you reach your destination and my phone blanks the screen, even when plugged into car power. AmiGo leaves itself on (even without a destination set) that allows you to use it for speeds and camera notifications just driving around. I disliked the fact that Google Maps didn't make audible noises when overspeeding and speed and camera notifications are just better on AmiGo.

AmiGo just looks and works more like you'd expect from a dedicated satnav unit, and it's obviously from a company that has many years of experience in that field. I use both Google Maps for directions and finding things, but for actual driving navigation, I find I like AmiGo better.
