New essential Android apps thread

I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, anyone else giving this a go?

Really enjoying it

I've tried a few gacha games, and I prefer Summoners War over the rest, even though FFBE has the whole lore/nostalgia thing going for it.

Can only imagine a bug in the OS version for it I guess then!

Yep. When it was exFAT, it was recognised by gonemad for my music library and it showed the full capacity in storage settings. I'd used it every day for a few months before realising I couldn't write/delete from Solid. :o

Anyway, thanks for the pointer on checking how it was formatted. :)

Is there any Android GPS navigation app that compares to Spyglass on iOS? So far I have been unable to find anything matching the quality of that app since moving over from an iPhone. I even emailed the Spyglass developer asking why no Android app and he replied to just say it was only him working on it so he didn't have time to support multiple OS versions. Fair play.

That depends on what Spyglass offers that you can't find? I use Google Maps and think it does a great job. Waze is also pretty great.

Yeah I happily use Waze and Google for sat nav. But love Spyglass just for fun of using it. Basically I'm after an augmented reality GPS app that compares to it (where you get an altimeter etc as part of your display). Very cool app to use when on a flight (secretly!).

I fancy trying a CS/COD style fps, what's the best out there? Offline/single player really, I commute on the tube so no signal. Modern Combat? Free preferably..

Any thoughts on what's the current best SMS app?

Been using Hangouts for a while now, which started off ok, was awesome with threaded sms/hangouts and now is just awful. Used to use Handcent back in the day iirc, and that still seems to be around/updated, so worth just going back to that?

Cheers, installed Textra, looks nice as stock and configurable for if/when I get bored, certainly a lot better than the current Hangouts SMS setup :)

Anything wrong with Google's own messenger?

I've used it in the past and liked it. Only reason I stopped using it was because it kept reporting my texts as being "unable to send" or something to that effect... a problem I understand that is quite common

the massive downside to textra is that all the customisation you do is not backed up. any time you change phone/reset you have to do it all again. so all individual notifications, the tones, the colour for each person, you have to do again. perhaps not an issue for most, but it's a great feature to use and extremely annoying that it cant be backed up

I hadn't really considered Messenger I guess, had used it a bit ago when they first started trying to get all the hangouts SMS users to switch, but didn't see the point at the time... Now I've got Textra installed/set as the default not really sure why I'd change but worth considering if I do :p

Shame about the settings/customisation, seems like that'd be an easy thing to implement as well

RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic is out, based on the two original games: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.atari.mobile.rctc

And none of that silly micro-transaction stuff as well! There are expansion packs which is what the IAP purchases are but for the core main game, you don't pay anything extra on top of the app cost.

... Except for some reason it's stuck on the loading screen for me, and looking at the comments it's preventing everyone from playing. Actually looking at the comments and update log it seems they updated it again to fix it, guess I'll give it another go again.
