New filters for the win

Motors threads! :p :D

My £0.02

Apart from pulling away, why on earth use the clutch?

Rev match & off you go. ;)

Works well in most trucks, shagged or not! - Its not so clever on modern electric gearbox setups though.

Was the old filter dirty?

not terribly dirty, although, it was only changed about 3000 miles ago.

I'm impressed so far, I'll let you know if I screw up my car :p Then Fox really will have somthing to laugh about! :p

Oiled mesh then.

@ OP: Keep £300 handy for when it destroys your MAF.
K&N continuously refute the fact that a K&N filter can destroy a MAF. They've posted quite a lot of information and testing about it on their website.

Get a pipercross tbh = virtually zero maintenance.
I shake my pipercross filter out now and again. My K&N takes hours to clean/reoil and I get the feeling it just aint as good as it used to be.

You should oil foam filters as well. Its the oil that traps the dust

It's not mesh, it's cotton. The steel mesh just keeps the cotton in the right shape.

Oiling foam filters is even more important than with cotton ones. Cottons does at least have a little filtering ability when dry, the foam used in pipercross etc. filters has virtualy none (it stops big rocks getting in, but that's about it).

I've seen enough destroyed hot wire type sensors to know they're talking out of their arse.

And you microanalysed them?

I've seen loads of destroyed MAFs and none of the vehicles had ever seen anything other than a plain old paper filter.

Don't be an ass.

It's boy racer central round here, and they all go through MAF sensors every 1 or 2 years.

Does my car, no, I use a proper filter.
Who goes through MAF sensors every 1 or 2 years?

this thread started off funny , then got hilarious when do you think im attractive sam got a word in , now its gone boring and technical :(

I think you're attributing MAF failure to the easiest part to blame rather than actually coming to an educated conclusion in each case.
