New five pound note

as someone who is a futurist, and tends to be a good 5 years ahead of the curve I am not a fan of physical money. That said, I have reluctantly mellowed in my old age and understand that the majority still require coins and paper currency to function. Based on that, I quite like it for what it is.

I don't know (genuinely) why we have 1p, 2p, 5p coins still.

They are basically worthless. These days 10p should be the smallest coin. The first coin of actual value is 50p really. Anything lower gets put in the shrapnel jar, and taken to the bank once a year :p

I bought a cone of chips earlier for £1.25 - we at least need 5p.

Cash is still king.

I still like to go out and buy & sell with some anonymity without everything having an audit trail right down to a packet of chewing gum.

I like the new fiver, old scabby ones are pretty rank.

There's quite a few fake 20s going about here just now, missing serial numbers and the silver foil part is a bit too big.

I was surprised by how often places were card only in Denmark. Even in Roskilde festival in a field it was all cards.

I guess you paid for your tinfoil hat with cash too ?

That would require retailers to round everything up to the nearest pound.

Which would bring the psychological effect that the £149.99 microwave you used to be able to buy, is cheaper than the £150.00 you have to pay now.

5 pence coins are still used, around where I live the public toilets are 10p (takes 5p) and there is a toll bridge that is 5p for a car.

These notes seem to be extremely easy to pickpocket without you noticing due to the lack of friction between the note and your pockets!
