New Flat - Parking Issue

I would leave a note on the dash explaining you've just moved in and phone the parking firm asking them not to invoice you for the parking and email them confirming the conversation.

Just don't ring UKPC's fine line up if u do get fined to dispute it. u get someone who is probably going to off themselves answer it and they don't give one ****

Is your previous flat still under notice? U may pull notice anytime and that can shaft everyone but who cares

I'm renting closer to a client's location, so the rent is being expensed through my limited company. I have mortgages on other properties and can't afford another one :p

If you have other properties, park one of your cars at one of those ;-)

I had no idea such a tax dodge existed.
Interesting.

Park one car in your space, and park the other outside the controlled area until you get it sorted.

OP is going to have to either get a reduction in rent to cover parking elsewhere, Suck it up or sue for breach of contract.

Especially if you highlight that you went for that flat specifically because it had 2 parking spaces

It sounds to me like he would be living in a hotel instead, which would be expensed. On the other hand it sounds like it's a long term client..

Isn't Beckenham practically next to Bromley?

In all my years of contracting I never heard of a tax dodge like this, how does it work? Do you need to have a 'main' property that is empty when you're away for work or something?

I wonder what a parking space is worth in that area. I bet it is a fair whack.

The add clearly says two spaces, what is in the tenancy agreement?

Has the landlord messed up or the letting agent?

Sorry for the late reply guys... been busy moving today. I found the landlord on Facebook and been messaging him (going via estate agents was too long winded). He explained that the flat still had two parking spaces (an extra long bay big enough for two cars, and that the management company classified that as one space (explains the sign). He also mentioned that UKPC will be posting permits to the property and that until it arrives a note on the dash will suffice (enforcement starts from tomorrow and they have a grace period).

I guess any issue I thought I had are now solved :)

For those asking about tax, you can expense travel, accommodation and sustenance costs for up to 2 years before you are classed as a permanent member of staff. A new location resets this clock. Whilst I have been contracting for this company for many years now, I have only been at their Bromley office for 1 year so far. My main residence is still Uxbridge and I only stay at the flat during the week days... if the flat was to become my main residence then I would not be able to expense the rent.

You were driving from Uxbridge to Bromley on a daily basis? Mental.

No, I started renting here when I moved from the London office to the Bromley office. I used to live in Kingston but moved to Uxbridge just before the work move to Bromley. Whilst I could commute from Uxbridge, I don't fancy spending ~4 hours travelling each day.

A few months on, my girlfriend got a ticket because the permit fell off the dash.

Surely my tenancy agreement overrules RMG/Ward Homes employing UKPC? I also never agreed for my space to be monitored.
