New game / New Graphics card.

Hi All

My MSI AMD ATI Radeon 7950 arrived today.

No drivers in the box and no connector cables for the power supply. The steel surround for the fans is also scratched.

I fitted it into my PC as I have done with previous graphics cards and....nothing. Fans not spinning and no power by the looks of things.

I have connected my systems four pin power connector which was connected to my old graphics card. There is also an eight pin socket on the graphics card, I take it I need to connect a cable to this also. If so what type of cable do I need.

Regards

Trebz

It was a refurb so something will be missing, You need to plug in the 2 6pin PCI connectors from your PSU.

I would also say get a new PSU at some point

:D

The old gpu was low power, the 7950 will pull a lot more. The set Idleman linked to will be a good choice :p

But old 4850 used 30A which is more than 7950 with 25A. It should do fine with Artic 700W PSU dual 12V+ rails combined 44A.

Trebz will not need to rush to buy a new PSU yet unless Artic 700W struggle to run 3D games with 7950 at full load that will cause PSU to peform emergency power shutdown during gameplay.

Received and understood. I'll go for the cable then see how it performs.

Thanks both.....

Are you sure this is the right one, the graphics card has an eight socket connector. Obviously it has the square and 'House Shaped' sockets.

Ummmm.............

Looking at pictures of the card, it has 2x 6pin power connectors. Your PSU has one, you need to add another?
Can you pist a pic of what you mean?

OK, you need a six pin and an 8 pin.

You may need something like this. This converts your 6 pin to 8 pin, than use the cable previously posted to add additional 6 pin.

I would personally go for a new PSU though, as far as i know, the 6 pin connectors are good for 75w, and the 8 pin 150w. I'm not sure how the PSU would cope with pulling (upto) 150w on the 6pin cable?

1 x Akasa PCI-E to PCI-E 2.0 Adapter (AK-CB052) £2.89

yep that one is a great psu.

I picked up one a couple weeks ago and its fantastic. Probably the best sub 600 PSU you can get right now.

Should last you ages and has the pci cables you need. Comes with 2 of those 6+2 gpu cables (so you can plug into either 6 or 8 slots)

It's now £60 so they can keep it. It was £49.99 last night.

Why have they put it up by £10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Because it was on a This Week Only offer, which expired at 9 o'clock this morning.

You could get this one, which is a fairly decent unit.
