Hello all!

I am, tomorrow, looking to order a pre-built gaming system from the fine folk at OcUK.

I only need the system as i have a monitor already and other peripherals. I may throw a new keyboard in there though.

I have a budget of around £1000. I could stretch a little further.

I was thinking of http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-190-OE&groupid=43&catid=2040&subcat=

with the GTX 580. Is this a good choice or could i improve on certain parts?

Look forward to your input, thanks!!

Hi Buchanan,

I don't mind, i was just thinking it would be easier to get it delivered all as one. Do you think i could save some money this way or build a better system within the budget? What would you recommend?

Thanks

There's definitely money to be saved when you build yourself!
Plus you get ultimate customisation because you pick everything yourself :)

I think i'll stick with it getting delivered prebuilt as i want it to look lovely and tidy inside and i know i'll make a mess of it :P.

Out of the available systems, what would you guys recommend?

That's 1.2K. For that, you could get a tidier system (bigger SSD, better case, PSU, motherboard mainly), but not something that will out-perform it.

vote for self build here, might start untidy but you can sit and 'play' around with it iuntil you're happy with it.

will save money/get better spec for same money.

The boys are right. Just build it yourself and save a small fortune. You can choose exactly what case you like etc. It really is ridiculously easy. If you get a good case, it's easy to make it look tidy :)

i think everyone is right, build it yourself if your only worry is having messy wires at the end lol.

I was in your situation before but ended up building it myself with the specs in my sig below (just need SSD now).

When i got stuck the people from this forum were VERY helpful.

Go for a self build - I did and I have no PC experience - it was suprisingly simple. Take your time and ask for help if you need it plus you'll save a few quid and when you want to upgrade you know exactly whats what.

Well that is a pretty good build tbh...
You could go xfire with:
2x HIS ATI Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 for an extra £160.
Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler @ £37 extra ?

That would be an extra £197 in total, from the build above....

Or a single card solution, a GTX 580 for £380ish and a Silver Arrow CPU cooler for overclocking maybe in the future for £50.99 (pre-order). Thats approx £170 more.

Hopefully someone can confirm these items are compatible with Akitas spec...

You would get more performance from 2x 6950's in xfire for the same price range. I prefer single card solutions also, but i would not pay those prices for the 580's.

The Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 TOXIC 2048MB GDDR5 may be able to be unlocked to 6970 with bios switch.

You could also stick with the Toxic 6950 (try to unlock it) and upgrade the SSD to a 128gb for an extra £60 and add the Hydro cooler @£37, that's a total of £97+, and save the rest...
