New headset : Pimax Crystal

Just did the Crystal in the cart price to UK thing, $1200 in the cart, turns out to be £1550 ish by the time you factor in shipping and tax.
So this might be closer to £1k+, unless you wait for some online store to get stock.
If I can get a bare bones Crystal for £600-700 I'll prob get one just because. If it's closer to £1k or more than I'll wait for the OLED or something

The one I mentioned above will be around £800 inc shipping and tax, but not sure about import duty. Think Pimax have an EU distribution point, but not sure if it means any additional duties to pay.

Pimax Crystal Light, which is a Pimax Crystal with all the standalone bits removed.

Looks a decent proposition (imo) if you're after a PCVR only VR headset. $799 (probably plus taxes? not sure) for such a high resolution headset with inside out tracking and controllers looks good, caveats are it's Pimax and the controllers might be not so good although Seb says they are ok in this video.

The weight is reduced a lot but it's still bulky. If I wanted a PCVR only headset I'd be seriously considering this, but I like good quality standalone too much now. If I had the spare cash it'd be cool to have this just for sims etc.

Seb being negative about some aspects of Pimax, at times they shoot themselves in the foot so to speak with how they do business imo.

Pimax have had QC issues since they started, maybe this is common it seems with VR headsets, always seems to be numerous complaints about them although Pimax appear to attract more complaints than most.

Not a good start at all. support take around two or three days to reply to emails with the latest reply asking me to remove and reinstall the right lens which is clearly defective. hopefully with the lens being removable they will send me a replacement right side lens which i can install myself instead of sending the headset back and going to the back of the queue for a replacement.

They have some crazy ideas at Pimax. I could have said the above pretty much word for word a year ago.

Just concentate on one VR headset, then when the times right make a 'lite' version of it when working on the next.

Small companies don't need lots of skus. Nothing good comes of it.

Can I just ask those that have very recently got a Pimax Crystal/ Crystal Light, what GPU are you running?

I'm trying to weigh up if my current RTX 3090 has the grunt or not (for MSFS 2020 primarily). Using a Reverb G2 at the mo and I'm itching for some extra clarity. Was toying with the PSVR2 for the OLED goodness (and because it's cheap) but the lenses and actual resolution of the panels are no better, so it's pointless.

Yes because they will be releasing a 2160 upscaling mode. Then in the future if you upgrade you can increase the clarity.

Interesting, didn't know about this. Damn you, I was all set to wait until I get a new GPU in the next year perhaps, but now you've sown a seed ;)

Given I already use DLSS upscaling for VR in MSFS 2020, will this Pimax upscaling work ok alongside that I wonder? It will have to or it will be useless for me on a 3090.
