New HTC headsets coming in June

First review in, and it doesn't look good. :(
Lenses are awful, small sweet spot, distortion at edges, and lower FOV than Index.

Guess I won't be swapping my Index for this. :(

Very low vertical field of view too going from the video. Says he's looking through a slot for vertical. Definitely sounds like it's not going to be a serious competitor yet.

Randomly I finally found the time to swap out my original vive lenses for the Gear VR replacements this week. Wow, what a difference, seeing the reviews for this now, I think I'll wait to see what the Index 2 brings.

It seems no one has got this right up to this point?

Good image, but less good FOV
Average image, but good FOV
Good controllers, bad controllers (not and issue for me as sim use)
Good sound, bad mic, but comfy.

etc

Bit disappointed still that no one is getting it right on all counts.

Yep, we need the FOV, edge-to-edge clarity, comfort, and audio of the Index, resolution of the G2, controllers and tracking of the Index or Quest 2, and PC wireless of the Quest 2 with the option of a wired displayport PC connection like the Index/G2.

I'd buy that!

My use case is sim racing and maybe a bit of flight sim. I am not bothered about controllers in that context. However, some of the chaps I race with have G2's and they do talk about the FOV not being as good as the Index and going back to that because of it, so giving up some clarity for the better FOV which is a real help in a race sim. I have been watching G2's and have had them in my basket on eBay a few times, but always pulled out as I am waiting for V2.0 V3.0 etc to get it right. I hope the HTC was gong to be the first but seem so far it's miles off still.

You forgot the £199 price tag :p

FOV is the main thing which keeps me using my Index over the Quest 2, that and it's a proper display port image rather than the compressed USB/Wireless one of the Quest 2. That's not an issue in many games, but some really suffer from compression issues.

Oh, and the Vive Pro 2 requires Viveport to be running, so it's not a pure Steam VR headset. Most of its special settings are in its own app and not Steam VR, unlike the Vive or original Vive Pro.

It looks so bulky and antiquated compared to newer headsets. For the price they are asking I would expect a complete redesign.

Anyway this guy increased the FOV with a thinner cover:

Well, all the headsets in that video have a larger FOV when using a thinner cover. So, he should have really tested all of them with the stock over and all of them with a thinner cover.
