New HTC headsets coming in June

MRTV full review, short version is he likes it....

I think the VoodooDE is based on a flawed headset or simply a compatibility issue with the reviewer because MRTV quite clearly shows some different results.

MRTV was the one who kept saying the quest 2 was awful, and the G2 was amazingly better, glossing over the tracking etc all the time. Not sure I'd trust him any more/less than the voodoo reviewer.

Others seem to think it's decent though, think the small sweet spot complaint (and not really 120 degrees) seems fairly constant though? Correct me if I'm wrong.

MRTV is a terrible reviewer. I wouldn't trust his opinion on any headset. The headsets he likes are never as good as he makes them out to be and he tends to gloss over any faults they have.

Basically this. He hypes up headsets he likes to the max.

Your summary is pretty accurate from the information we have at the moment. Decent headset with terrible lenses and not really 120 degrees.

Here is another review

HTC Vive Pro 2 Review – "Pro" Price with Not Quite Pro Performance (roadtovr.com)

They say the same thing and their FOV measurements are more in line with the two German reviews where the horizontal FOV isn't even as good as the Valve Index.

Still waiting on reviews from better reviewers like Tested, Cas and Chary, and Tyriel Wood.

As I recall MRTV criticised the G2 tracking and hand controllers even going on to demonstrated how to integrate the G2 with Steam VR and using Index controllers.

They all agree the sweetspot is small, VoodooDE though I'm not sure he was in the sweetspot at all in his review. Maybe cos the headset was defective or he has an eye stigmatism, high or uneven IPD I don't know but he clearly sees a much higher degree of edge distortion than MRTV.

I think what MRTV is saying reading between the lines is the Vive Pro 2 (with the FoV modded face cushion) is the best but it obviously comes at a high cost, so if you have an Index or G2 atm its an upgrade rather than a must have.

As to who to trust? I think they are both sharing their experiences and tbh it in both their interests to see a higher adoption rate of VR gear but I don't get the impression either are being deceptive I think MRTV is perhaps too polite and less emotive in his descriptions but thats just a content creator thing imho.

Has anyone actually pre ordered one of these? I preordered one on the 31st. I beginning to think it was a bit of a panic buy to get the £60 pound off now. Be interested to hear the thoughts of other people that’s pre ordered one. I still have my original Vive pro with the gear vr lens mod to sell yet as well. I have the Vive wireless adapter which I will keep. It worked great with the original vibe pro.

I preordered a few weeks after go live date to give myself time to cancel. Reviews are all over the place because from what I can tell the VP2 has.
  • Wide FOV and a narrow FOV at the same time
  • Has better, worse and similar clarity than a G2
  • Crap audio but good audio
  • Poor edge to edge clarity and good edge to edge clarity
  • Poor sweetspot and OK sweetspot
The only thing all reviews agree on is the poor microphone but I don't care about that.

Yep, that was my interpretation too. Very weird.

One thing that I've not seen much about is the software and configuration side of things.
I'm conscious that say with the Quest 2, that it seems to be turn it on and get on with it. With the G2, I read a LOT of stories about hours of "fiddling" to get the best from it.
If the VP2 can bring similar user friendliness of configuration, as per the Q2, I could see the VP2 being a very interesting choice.

Vive Pro 2 is not a 'pure' Steam VR headset, unlike the Index, Vive, or Vive Pro. It requires Viveport to be running, and has it's own separate settings app separate from Steam VR, so I'm not hopeful the configuration side will be 100% user friendly.

Mine arrived this morning, its my 1st VR headset so I am both excited and nervous.

If its a pile of spanners its going back though if you're charging a premium price its got to be a decent product no excuses.

Must have close to the 120 HFoV, good edge to edge clarity, good colour/black reproduction and enough VFoV...

The sweet spot sensitivity, mic performance and some lens glare in certain scenarios is something I could live with along with minor mods and adjustments to achieve the above.

Tracking and hand controllers is a non-issue as I've gone for the Index and Base Station 2.0 which if you were a G2 owner would set you back an additional £500 to the headset in order to rectify those weaknesses in the G2

good luck Bigbang. Hope it's a great headset.

What are you upgrading/changing from?

@BigBANGtheory - I'll be very interested to hear your impressions of the Vive Pro.

I've got an Index and I like just about everything about the Index apart from the lens glare and resolution. (And of course it's not wireless, but not many PC headsets are), so would be interested to know what the Vive Pro is like.

can confirm it is amazing, definitely some image clarity issues going on atm but I've made no adjustments yet or any effort to locate the sweet spot/eye box just first impressions after doing all the updates and getting Steam VR up and running.

regarding FoV, yeah I can't see what the fuss is about it looks pretty good to me :)
