The H50 is not fine on a 4.2 GHz as they simply cannot handle the heat output. The only option is to go with the megahalem we use as standard, or you would need to buy a custom water cooling loop, but i dont advise this unless you know what your doing down to the last word.

Hi Justin,

Sorry must have missed your post.

Looking at the dimensions it looks as though it will fit in your case with no issues at all.

I'm now tempted to change my choice to use a megahalem with two Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fans in push/pull formation instead of the Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler on my 4Ghz over-clock bundle I was thinking of getting.

Not too sure what the noise difference will be or the price difference (as it is not a choice in that bundle (I work it out at an extra £8.18?). Just I'd like to future proof my computer as much as possible and would hate to have to buy a whole new cooling kit in the future when I get get a better CPU fit in the MoBo such as one of the Gulftown 6 cores. Although I have seen a review of one which did use the Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler for cooling. But I don't think they tried to overclock it with one.

Hmmm, decisions decisions.

Reminder of my package to date I'm considering:

(a megahalem with two Akasa AK-FN057 Apache Super Silent 120mm Fans in push/pull formation instead of the Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler worth it for future proofing over-clocking future chips and what is the price difference if I was to customise the order in that way - still to only hit 4ghz, not 4.2ghz - although I bet it could?)

Hi.

Using a megahalem with two Sharkoon 1000 fans would only be £2 more expensive than the H50 and would give you better performance, especially if you looking to cool a gulftown and or upto 4.2Ghz.

Please call the sales team if you wish to purchase this bundle with the changes.

Sorry to bother you again. Just double checking a few things:

1) The megahalem will fit in the Fractal Design case (as it has that thick sound proofing stuff).

2) The megahalem can be mounted so the fans on it pulls air from bottom up to top (instead of front to back). As I am going to use the 2 Fractal Design fans as one sucking in at the bottom and the top as an exhaust fan (would use the ones on the heat sink in same direction to get a great 1 way airflow upwards).

3) would it be 2 x 80mm Sharkoon 1000 fans or 2 x 120mm Sharkoon 1000 fans? The reason I ask is the 80mm ones are 8.9 db(a) each and the 120 are 19 db(a) each. Quite a bit of difference in noise levels. Although the sound dampening of the case may mean I am worrying about nothing. But the more silent the better for me with making music on my computer.

Thanks for all your help.

I'm going to sleep on it one final time (to make sure I have everything correct) and will order tommorow. If I do what is the expected lead/wait time? About a week?

Cheers again & sorry for all the hasstle.

Yes the megahalem will fit in the fractel case.

I would not advise fitting it that way round. Firstly cases are designed with airflow of front to back, by going bottom to top you will be simly sucking in hot air that rises, this will also mean you suck in more crap from the floor blocking in your fans. It will also mess up the natural airflow through the case and have wierd cooling effect. We have also never fitted the way round you have asked about for the above reasons.

It would be 2 x 120mm 1000 fans yes.

Just recieved mine got it all installed and running with no major problems Temps look good , though think im gonna have to go down the water route this summer gets a bit hot here.

Doubled my fps in battlefield bad company 2 have yet to install my Music pro software yet but no doubt its gonna be top notch

Seeing as this topic has been bumped again.....

Just ordered mine with the megahalem with two Sharkoon 1000 fans :)

NOW it feels like Xmas, hehe (yeah, I had a bad one - this will hopefully make up for it).

Excuse double post.

Ive heard the i7's run hotter than dual cores, Whats a safe maximum while running prime95?

Also Whats the best temp monitoring prog to use, curently using speedfan and coretemp
Speedfan gives my temps 10 degrees C lower than coretemp.

Any help much apreciated

Elusivemite - Personally I'd like to keep it under 80c, 85c at a push (although they'd probably take a little higher without harm).

But remember warmer ambient temps are on the way if you're overclocking, so def keep an eye on it :)

Hi

I was thinking of buying this bundle but really want a C300 ssd and obviously the Rampage II does not support SATA 6/G. Really seeking advice - is it worth waiting for a Rampage III bundle or getting a controller card for the Rampage II bundle?.

The rampage iii is out in a month or so I think. While sata 6 is good I still font think a SSD will take advantage of it in single drive form.

Phil

Looking at some of the benchmarks around it does seem to make quite a big difference, not sure how much realworld performance difference is though.

If its out in around a month I'm guessing 6-8 weeks before any sort of bundle is available?. Not sure I can wait as current system is unstable (99% sure
its m/b issue).

I've tried my hardest to get my temps over 80 in stress and I am finding it simply impossible.

I had to keep checking the overclock to make sure it was there because the temps just looked too cool.

I highly recommend peeps buy this bundle with the megahalem & 2 Sharkoon 1000's in push/pull configuration in the Fractile noise dampening Case.

I thought it be noisy under 100% load. Yet I can't hear a thing and the megahalem is even cool to the touch.
(even under 100% prolonged load the fans don't even kick in to go full speed - they don't need to, or if they do I can't hear them or see it)

The noisiest thing now is my HX620W PSU which used to be the most quietest thing I had and it is simply because I can hear the power trickling (not the fan).

Just simply awesome. The SSD makes it all the much faster too.
It's like stepping out of a cave and entering the star ship enterprise.

I'll update my siggy next week.... yeah, I really have jumped a few generations!

Hi Xe-Cute

Glad to ear you bundle is all well and good, the fan configuration i recommended does work very very well, you can now understand why we use it on our fastest bundles
