New Intel Processors Announced

well it seems anyone moving over now from AMD to intel, now is the time since current boards will be ready for Nehalem as i understand.

as for these cpu's they seem good, but it depends if they all clock well.

Nehalem will be a new socket, so it won't be compatible.
The 45nm dual cores are looking perfect to hold until Nehalem, will just get the cheapest one :)

Well I'll wait for it to be less greedily priced..... only be a week or so after they start shipping before less greedy people offer them at sensible prices I reckon

I don't understand (I readily admit I may have missed something here).

But, how is this greedy?

E6850 overclockers price: £176
E8500 ANO supplier: £185

The E8500 has an extra 2Mb L2 Cache, .16 Gz speed, and runs 10C cooler, which will probably equate to another .5Ghz overclockability.

Probably the same sort of story for the E8400.

So unless the new chips inspire the retailers to reduce the E6xxxs (entirely feasible and with precedent), then I can't see much headroom to reduce those sort of prices.

... so what I should have also said is "... and they will probably come in a bit higher" :D:D.

Defo waiting till the summer now...

But the E8400 price is looking good. You have to ask why buy an E6850 for £176, when you can get the E8400 for £145.

Absolutely your God-given right to go elsewhere, but no more talk of pricing please from anyone. It's always difficult to get good pricing on a major launch. As constraints ease so does pricing :)

Dollar slide ain't exactly helping as everyone wants to cover their backs just in case it really goes to the wall

Nehalem will bring an on-board memory controller and Intel's version of Hypertransport so it's not only going to require a new socket but will also be the biggest change to Intel motherboards for some years.

And it's gonna be lovely, was a really great move for AMD :D

dunno where they got them processor numbers from, for the new Xeons
http://www.intel.com/products/processor/xeon5000/specifications.htm

I already have 2 45nm Xeon processors with 12mb cache, 45nm, 1333mhz fsb, 2.83Ghz and as the intel website shows, the new 45nm processor line for xeon starts with 54 for their 12mb cache ones. Not X3360 for the 2.83 12mb cache processor. And they came out Q4 2007 November.. just hard to get hold of.. may have to import from america. As its the time of year where intel concentrates on shipping to enterprise, eg HP, Dell etc, so they get the first batches while everyone else is left at the bottom of the queue unfortunately:(
