New Iphone NO MMS

What is this obsession on the iphone's camera ???

The iphone is designed as having ipod function as its main feature with a revolutionary touchscreen interface, which brings with it a new way to surf the net on it's browser. It was never designed or marketed as a camera phone, unlike the Sony Cybershot series. This is like criticising the Sony Cybershot having a crappy browser.

Naw, to be called more than capable it would have to take photos of quality similar to other good phones and have a camera module worth more than 10p!

to be called more than capable in my book, it has to be able to take the half decent photos that I expect from a phone camera. That it achieves. As with all phone cameras I've used, you just have to make sure you've got a decent amount of light. It could do with a flash, but I'm not too bothered about it

The internet as a standard function on a phone is relatively new, whereas the camera is very well-established. Some people have come to rely on them or, at the very least, find it a useful feature. It's not like comparing it to the Cybershot's web browser because people using the K series Sonys, and most camera phones probably don't care about the internet on a mobile device - the penetration of the internet in the truly mobile market isn't as great as cameras.

It's funny.. people are slating the camera, but who's to say it hasn't been improved in some way?

I'm thinking a software angle.. before people shoot me down with "It wasn't in tehz keynote0r0r0z n00b" ;)

I have to say in all honesty, I'd only used the camera on my iPhone a few times... - the image quality was good enough for what I was doing - which was happy snapping....

If anything, the camera was only a small addition - the thing I love about the iPhone is the the way that it fuses all the things together... the t'interweb really is phenomenal on it, the iPod is fantastic, mail.app is cracking and I've no idea how I'd live without it on the move now.. All this is brought together by one of the most intuitive interfaces I've ever used...

Peeps should stop focusing on the negatives and look at the positives.

Roll on V2 (without mms!)

if it has a crappy browser, then its a legitimate complaint. Ive said this before - the sole reason i still use my n95 is because the iphone camera is rubbish. I cant take my dslr on a night out, so it has to be the n95. i cant take pictures in low light with the iphone, so it has to be the n95. if the iphone had a decent camera (and the v2 CERTAINLY should have) then i could have sold the n95. so yes, its not good in my books.

people seem to take the 'well it doesnt affect me so its not important' stance with the iphone camera, exactly as they do with the (lack of) MMS.

I am not saying it shouldn't better better, i am saying that people are picking on it when CLEARLY it isn't one of its strengths. And in no way it was ever tried to be.

While it'd be nice for the iPhone to have a camera, it's not the end of the world that it doesn't. It actually doesn't do a bad job in daylight, obviously really poor in low light but so what? If you're that concerned, get yourself a Sony DSC-T200 like I did for decent shots when you're out and about. Its small enough to stick in your pocket. Yes its another device to carry but it's hardly going to weigh your trousers down.

Obviously the light's good in this shot I took a couple of days ago, but I don't think this is at all bad for something that Apple clearly don't consider a key feature of the phone...

Darn right! :p

No seriously though - I don't see it as a hinderance in any way shape or form. The product that the iPhone has shaped up to be is fantastic in my eyes - yes it is lacking in some areas, and yes the N95 is a cracking phone - especially for battery life (so I hear). But as the iPhone gets revved, it wouldn't surprise me if the camera did get a boost..

As EVH said above - who's to know if Apple aren't gonna update the software? :)

hehe

we were in scarborough on Saturday, weather didnt look like that though :(

Ayeesh, is this still going on??

If you want MMS - don't get an iPhone... simple as that! Or if you do - wait until someone cracks it and then install SwirlyMMS if needs be..

Yup.

If you want MMS, sit tight for a couple of weeks and install SwirlyMMS final. Or if you want it now, install SwirlyMMS Beta and Mobile Finder/Preview.

If you don't, don't.

/thread.

i went from iPhone to N82 and I wouldnt go back, no MMS is a joke its very useful and although the iPhone has a great OS it just doesnt have the functions, i if I need full internet I will use my macbook and Three mobile broadband

Are they introducing a version that is actually friendly to use then? It would be great to actually have MMS presented properly with the text etc and not to have to go hunt for the picture after it's downloaded

Yep, 1.0 has been in the pipeline for months and was supposed to be released back in April. The new release is supposed to support video, sound and pics and have it's own internal viewer. The whole program is supposed to look and feel a lot like the iPhone mail app.

Just had a read up and it looks like 1.0 beta is out there, with a view to a full release later this month.

Swish.

Edit - They're charging $8 for the final release, but you get 2 weeks to trial. Not too bad I suppose, don't mind paying that for a decent app.
