New Iphone NO MMS

I don't understand the whole uproar about the lack of MMS or video calling.
Even though I've had phones with this functionality for ages, I've never sent an MMS, nor have I ever made a video call.

Rilot, you don't understand the uproar because you don't use them.

You would understand it if you did use them - which many people do.

The phone is missing a lot of basic things which are just annoying. How hard would it be for Apple to add MMS ability or cut and paste? I imagine both wouldn't be that difficult.

Probably true. I've never had a need for either of them.

TBH though, I'm not sure why people are complaining about the lack of these features where there are plenty of other devices out there that have both of these. Apple aren't forcing you to buy an iPhone. If it doesn't meet your functionality requirements, don't buy one.

I don't use video-calling at all and very rarely use MMS - but it's nice to have the option. The latter wouldn't be difficult to turn into a viable iPhone option.

I don't disagree at all with your last sentence - but it's just people being aggravated by minor things which could really propel the phone into something truly special. For me at the moment, there's too many pieces of the puzzle missing - although I will probably still get one.

there's a lot of pieces missing out out of the box. i cant imagine running an iphone without jailbreaking it.

I imagine a lot of free software creators will move over to the official SDK when the app store launches, so you won't even have do to do that soon, to fill in the gaps.

rubbish point you got there mate, you can buy a usb floppy if you need to. typical macfan "if i dont need it then its not important"

It has nothing to do with my (apparent) Mac Fandom, but rather that change can be painful and with the move to mobile data an Internet the MMS is probably going to go the way of the floppy disk.

Just like you can get a USB floppy disk drive (should you be stuck in the 1980's :p ) I am sure an official MMS app for the iPhone will be released, especially considering there has been a few for the jailbroken phone.

A lot of background apps won't work with the SDK so will need third party apps.

Well, I will JB mine as soon as it's viable. Many of the old installer.app progs will need a rewrite to work with the new firmware though.
They better rewrite Lexitron or release it via the SDK. I'll really miss that game.

whenever that happens, it will be very welcomed:)

.
im sure it might, but what in the meantime. you seem to forget (or ignore) that most people who do send MMS messages arent on iphones, so they arent going to email them are they?

how long has the iphone been out now? and all we have is one app for the jailbroken phones that needs an addition separate app just to view whats been sent to you. thats progress for you.

Personally I have never sent an MMS in my life! So I am not bothered if its supported or not. .

I send loads, so do most of the people i know, my brother in particular is one for sending random pictures

The other day i got one that simply said "HORSE!".

It was a horse.

I have a MacBook Pro, a Mac Pro, Steve Jobs' face as my signature and see the side of reason for those complaining about the minor imperfections in the iPhone.

The mentality that because Apple haven't included it as a feature must mean it's old-technology is baffling. People will excuse Apple products for a lot of things, as someone who is considering purchasing one when the prices for Pay-as-You-Go are released, I am one of them.

However, the phone is far from flawless and like every other phone on the market - will be subject to criticism as much as it has its plaudits.

If it wasn't for people complaining there may not have even been a 3G version which everyone now craves. Again, including myself.

I would argue that the inclusion of 3G was pushed forward because countries like China are practically 3G-only. Releasing an iPhone without 3G would have flopped BIG STYLE.

Apple knew this, and acted on it. Which makes it slightly more admirable.. I myself, would have thought it would have been better to delay the iPhone V1 and launch when it was 3G enabled from the go.

Aside from the "It doesn't do MMS" issue, my annoyance is the "...but this phone [Insert generic device] does [insert feature] better"... yes, well that's the personal choice.

Some people don't seem to realise that Apple isn't forcing them to buy one, and if there's a device that does the job better (for what they need) they need to be asking some serious questions as to why they want to buy one in the first place.

Found a better phone? Go buy it.. and stop trolling the iPhone threads, jesus.

listen to you two lol, its ridiculous.

but but but, we don't like Apple and have little to no intention of buying an iPhone but we still want to have a good moan about features that the product *should* have

i already have one? its great, but there are simple things it does not do...so i have to own two phones.....id rather not. im sure its not a hard concept to grasp.

Good thing that you don't dictate what's discussed, then...

No one thinks that.

The iPhone is the best overall phone, but could be better.

I don't own an iPhone but I do appreciate mac products. MMS has been a standard feature on phones now for years, and it is something I like to use occasionally.

I feel that for apple to include MMS messaging would not be too much work (i am obviously assuming as I don't work for a mobile company) so would have liked to have seen it implemented.

However, the rest of the phone is a great piece of technology and I believe I will be purchasing one when released. The lack of MMS is a compromise that I will have to make, which in an ideal world I wouldn't. Such is life. For a relatively simple feature to be ignored in such a way is completely baffling to me but, as previously stated, it is not a deal breaker for me.

Not even sure why im getting involved :o

edit: i also think the 'apple are moving towards using email for picture messaging' argument is flawed. MMS is relatively simple and wont take anything away from the phone so why not implement it?

What's ridiculous (sic) is that you've bought a phone that doesn't meet your expectations and you carry 2 phones! Do you pay for 2 contracts aswell?

I'm only being condescending because the discussion in here is so pointless. James.miller is someone I always associate with hating apple and everyone else is whining about the lack of features that they could quite easily get from a different product. Like with every product, it's aimed at the people it ticks all the obligatory boxes for.
