New iPhone on the way...what does this mean?

The point is the phone shouldnt need protecting from every day use....

Non of my Nokias or HTC's have never needed a case or pladtic film, there just fine without. Where as the iphone is not. Its just simply a bad choice of plastic for the back end of.

Both my Nokia 6600 and N71 both got scratched very quickly.

I'm yet to find a phone which doesn't benefit from some sort of protection, all my Sony erricsons and nokias have got scratched by keys or coins so I'm at a loss as to what you think makes them so much more bullet proof or superior to the iPhone.

Normal phones dont scratch with your fingernail or by putting them on a wooden surface.

IMO, you bought the iPhone/iPhone 3G knowing full well what it can/can't do. Any software update that adds new features you should take happily as a free gift from Apple. If Apple's history serves them... as soon as the new iPhone is out all the previous one will get is at most security updates/bug fixes.

Normally I'd agree but I distinctly remmeber his holyness Steve Jobs saying that they planned to add loads of "really cool" features to the iphone through firmware updates.

I don't hate the iphone, I think it's a great bit of kit. However, to me, it seems like most of the userbase want copy and paste. I'm sure Apple have the skills to get it implemented fairly easy but because they "know what we want" they just leave it...
It's a great phone but I'm yet to see any cool features being added.

They need an updated piece of hardware with far more features to be a real update to the V1 and V2.

Hclipboard is a pretty good copy paste system for those of u with jailbroken phones, I'm sure apple coyot do better if they would just remove their respective digits from their collective orifices.

The MMS app in the app store might not be official but it sure works and it's free (for the app at least and to receive messages. You have to pay to send messages). For me it's ideal, I hardly ever send MMS but I have a couple of mates who often send me photos - this handles things perfectly.

As for scratches, all I use is an iPod sock when I'm out and about. I've not had any problems with it scratching at all - maybe you're just abusive your phones. :p

The start of June is when my current O2 contract finishes. Looks like I will finally be able to get 3G. Hope they put a decent battery in it.

This is beginning to become a mantra of mine: Apple gives us what they think we want not what we want. It's always been that way and probably always will unless when Steve Jobs retires some idiot takes over and starts releasing all sorts of crap. I'd rather have Apple stuff that is missing a few things rather than a device crammed to the gills with "features".

I would like a new version but I would have to think really hard about upgrading if its available.. A lot depends on the ability to jailbreak it for me because I have become to used to apps like pdanet I would feel I was losing out a lot if I didnt have it..

a nice change would be to give it proper functionality with all ipod stuff... i'm sick of seeing "this product is not compatible with the iphone" or whatever the message is that pops up with you try to plug it into some funky speaker device or charger etc...
