New look England squad (vs Hungary 11/08/10)

Walcott. Is. Rubbish.

He's quick.

He has nothing else to his game other then the ability to move quickly.

I always wonder what will happen to walcott if he loses his pace as he doesn't have much else. Don't think he should have gone to Arsenal at least not that soon in his career staying at Southampton could have done so much more for him.

If he can't improve his technical ability under Wenger, I don't think there is much chance it would improve anywhere.

I mean at Southampton he could have been developed in to more of a striker which is a role I think he would have done a lot better at. Also I never really got why he went to Arsenal a very passing orientated team when he doesn't really suit that style of play if that makes sense.

I think it was hoped he was going to be Henry's replacement. He had all the potential to be just that, he just never actually improved on his potential.. I don't think that would have changed, no matter where he was.

Players like Walcott and Lennon shouldn't start the game they should be impact players that run against tired defenders which can lead to more chances because I feel Young and Johnson have far better technical ability.

Don't equate Walcott and Lennon, Lennon is actually a footballer, who can pass, control a football and actually tracks back.

We'll see. People have misjudged Lennon hugely imo. 2 good months and he's the new messiah. Football fans have short memories, he was more average than Walcott before he had a handful of good games.

Because I remember the Lennon of old who couldn't cross or in fact do anything particularly well :s? You saw him more, you must know exactly what I mean?

His crossing was poor, sure, but he was still better than Walcott, who still cannot cross. :p

Lennon in the Premiership - 139 games, 15 goals, 33 assists

Walcott in the Premiership - 86 games, 9 goals, 9 assists

Lennon makes double the amount of goals Walcott does, really is no contest.

Capello really is such a moron. It's on Sky Sports News that he's just said Beckham is out of the squad, but Capello has admitted he hasn't even spoken to him yet, instead going straight to the media about it.

Jesus, that's just a horrible thing to do.

Isn't he injured anyway? Beckham should have been dropped from the England squad once he signed for team Hollywood. All this 'I love england, I always want to play for my country' is just BS. It's just part of the PR game that the Beckham's play.

If good/fit enough, Beckham should be picked though.

Yeah but all Capello said was "maybe he is a little old now." I really don't understand why the media are getting into such a tizzy over it.

I think it's the fact he near enough said he wasn't going to play again, just seemed a little unprofessional that's all. I'm not all that bothered by it, just the fact the way Beckham basically found out he'll never play for England again through the TV :p

I don't doubt he wants to play for England.

I doubt that his has a role in the England team now, imo, nothing more to offer England.

As for this "helping the kids" attitude, fair enough, let him go get some badges and coach.

laughs @ "makes"

Unquestionably Lennon's assists is much better - but goals is about the same (give or take scoring a goal every 10 games)

It could also be argued that if Walcott got a run of 40 games his assists (and goals) could potentially shoot up at an alarming rate due to players around him getting more used to his play

Admittedly though Im not a particular fan of Walcott but it would be interesting to see Lennon's stats after 89 games just to see if the progression of assists was linear or not

Remember it took Bale (admittedly a different position but not that drastically differeing) a huge amount of games before he was on the winning side for Spurs - his promise was there at Southampton (I think he was there first anyway) but it was experience etc holding him back - now he really looks the quality player Spurs bought initially it just took time to unlock that potential

Walcott is quick, bloody quick but has very little to his game other then that.

Lennon is a far more "complete" package in the attacking sense.

Walcott, really needs to improve if he's going to be considered for England again imo, he's been a flop so far.

I think the squad was almost a England 'B' game, to check out how other players would cope playing for England.
