yeah, i'm mainly concerned with the price of the new MBP's as i'm not sure whether i can justify buying one over the top standard MB at the moment with an extra GB of ram.

and what freebies i can get obviously, already get HE discount :D
Free iPod Nano for HE purchases, or a £199 voucher to use on another iPod if you so wish + normal HE discount ;)

You can now spec 4 gig too :) You can also spec a high res 1920x1200 panel for the 17" one, have you always been able to do that? I've only ever seen them with 1680x1050 screens.
The hi res screen is definately new :D

Also, theyve added a 7200rpm 160GB drive, which is a nice touch!

I take it the 4gig ram is now fully supported then? \0/

Damn, a 17 incher, 1920x1200 with the 7200 hd and 4 gigs ram would be fairly smokin'. :)
I'm going to order one with that spec after WWDC..

Wonder if any Apple stores would consider a part ex for my 17" MBP ;)

can anyone thats on a HE campus at the moment tell me how much the lowest MBP is now with the HE discount?

its a 40 minute walk for me to get to campus :p
It's roughly the normal price minus the VAT.

I remember you saying you can get away with HE discount? How do you do it?
Just ring up and pretend you're a HE student.

Like-wise you could always order off a university campus network

UPDATED OP to reflect new specs.

Fair enough, I might try that then although if they ask me for proof I don't know what to say.
They will only ask you to provide an email address.. just get one off a friend at university and you've got a backup.

If they don't you're laughing

The 160GB 7200rpm is quite a bit faster than a 200GB 4700rpm drive.

If you need it go for it, otherwise just shove one in yourself at a later date if you don't get on with the stock one.

Just sold my MBP.. hopefully have this next week :D

(17" HD, 160GB, 4GB RAM!)

I hate you as well :( How much that set you back?
Actually not as much as you'd think.

Crucial has the 4GB RAM for £270 (instead of Apple's £480) so about £400-500 on top of the sale of my old MBP :)

Suprised they even had the 2.4GHz MacBook Pro in their compatibility lists!

Tell me how much you get, i may sell mine for the new one!

You havn't had yours for long? April?

Josh
Just sold it for £1450.. not bad considering I paid around the same with HE discount :)

Yeah, 2 months.. I just couldn't resist the new gfx and speedy hard drive!.. oh and the HD resolution of 1920x1200!!

Just had an email.. apparently the 160GB 7200rpm hard drive is in short supply.. they've updated my order as "4-6 weeks!"

Justin said:
Yeah I will, although doesn't it void the warranty?
Don't think it does.. although if you break something while doing it then it will.

You could always order one, buy the drive seperate and have an apple store shove the drive in for you (while you wait)

(Just bought a 2.4 base) And I've been quoted estimated shipping date 13th June and delivery estimate date 22nd June. Will be worth the wait but I hope it comes quicker :)
You're lucky!

I initially saw the delivery as "3 days" when I ordered mine, now apparently the lead time has been bumped to 4-6 weeks!

Obviously I can't do anything to speed it up, but having sold my MBP I am now Mac-less for what's going to be a good month! :(\

Oh, and not sure if they charge to put a drive in the Mac.. I assume they do!

I thought that, but then I saw someone at the airport with a Macbook. Then they ended up close to me on the plane, and I can tell you they had a much easier laptop experience than me with my comparatively bulky 15" MBP :(
Didn't you feel good knowing you have an essentially more powerful machine though ;)

I've been thinking of getting a MB PRO and this new one might just make me do it, but are there gonna be any updates when Leopard comes out? & also, how much will the Leopare update cost (October IIRC).

Final question: This Apple discount (HE or whatever) is that Uni student only? Is there any discount that I could claim (Currently 16, in y11 doing GCSE's - buying for daily school use when I'm in 6th Form)?
Intel is due to release the new Penryn chip "late 2007" so it's likely but not 100% due to coincide with October / Leopard.

Leopard should be around £58 if it's priced as Tiger is now.

I wouldn't worry about buying now.. Leopard is months away, and if you're new to Macs it will give you the chance to get familiar with OS X :)

I believe it's you, me, EVH and possibly SidewinderINC. I think I've got the earliest estimated delivery date so far ;)

Actually, I rang Apple today and my delivery went from 4-6 weeks back to 3 days :D

The website is showing 3 days now too.
